“I honestly thought I was going to die.”

After more than 40 years as an intensive care nurse, Erika never imagined she'd become critically ill herself.

Flu, alongside respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and sepsis, left her fighting for her life and spending weeks in hospital.

She believes one thing made a crucial difference. “I don't think I would be alive today if I hadn't had the flu vaccine," she said.

Flu can be far more serious than many people realise, especially for older adults, pregnant women, young children and people with long-term health conditions or weakened immune systems.
