๐Ÿ•น GAME OF THE WEEK - The Oregon Trail on Apple II from 1985 ๐Ÿ•น

How far have you got along the trail?

The Oregon Trail is an educational strategy game developed and published by the Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium (MECC). The video game was a reimagining of the text-based game of the same name, originally created in 1971 and published by MECC in 1975.

The multiple games in the series (often considered iterations of the same title) have collectively sold over 65 million copies and have been inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame.

The museum has the game on the Apple Macintosh II, which was released in 1991, and can be found in the Apple room on the 3rd floor.

๐Ÿ•น EXHIBIT OF THE WEEK - Apple Macintosh II from 1987 ๐Ÿ•น

The Apple Macintosh II was released in 1987 as a higher-end version of the existing compact Macintosh models. On release, even a basic model cost $5,498. It was the first Mac to support colour graphics, although the museum's machine has a 20" "two-page" monochrome monitor which was designed for publishing work.

You can find this in the Apple room on the 3rd floor of the museum. Why not come and try it out?

๐Ÿ•น GAME OF THE WEEK - Paperboy on ZX Spectrum from 1986๐Ÿ•น

Developed and published by Atari Games for arcades in 1985, and produced for the Spectrum by Elite Systems, Paperboy is widely considered an iconic game. The Spectrum port topped the UK monthly sales chart in September 1986, with the release of the Commodore 64 version taking it to number one again in November. It went on to become the seventh best-selling video game of 1986 in the UK.

More recently, the game's protagonist has made cameos in two films (Wreck-It Ralph and Pixels), as well as a limited comic series published by DC Comics.
