Today, we are publishing Holding It All Together, a parent-led study of the workplace experiences of parents and carers raising neurodivergent children.

Here is what parents and carers told us:
• 88% say their ability to work or progress has been limited
• 74% have changed their working patterns
• 30% have left work or taken a career break
• 80% have seen household income fall
• 98% report a decline in mental health

This isn’t about families who cannot cope. It’s about systems that don’t support them and workplaces that don’t see them.

98% of parents and carers of neurodivergent children told us their mental health has been negatively affected. Not because of their children, but because of the fight to access support and workplaces who do not see them.

We are changing that.

88% of parents and carers of neurodivergent children say broken systems and inflexible workplaces have limited their ability to work or progress. The skills and experience of talented individuals are being lost, and our workplaces are the poorer for it.

Summer is a great time to get outside and explore… 🌳

For many children and young people, choosing calmer or more familiar environments can make these experiences feel even better. Whether that’s a quiet walk, a favourite park or time in nature.

It doesn’t need to be anything big or complicated. Often it’s those small, relaxed moments that end up being the most memorable!

What’s your favourite summer activity to do with your family or friends?

At Mindroom, we share support and guidance to help families feel more confident navigating everyday life. Visit www.mindroom.org to find out more.

“Being part of this group meant finally feeling welcome and seen. It was comforting not to feel alone, to share without judgement and to connect with others who truly understood. More of this please.” 💬

This came from parent carers who took part in peer support sessions in 2025, delivered in partnership with Families Together in East Lothian.

Over 30 families took part across in-person and online sessions. Families told us they felt welcome, seen and no longer alone.

This year, we are building on this work to reach more families in more communities across Scotland.

If you’d like to read more about this work and the wider impact of Mindroom’s support, visit www.mindroom.org.

Summer holidays can be a nice chance to slow things down a bit, try new things, and enjoy a different kind of routine! 🌞

For some children and young people, having a bit of gentle structure can still help things feel settled. Nothing rigid, just familiar touchpoints like mealtimes, rest, or regular things they enjoy across the week.

There’s also space for flexibility and spontaneity, which can make summer feel more relaxed and fun for everyone involved. Every family finds their own rhythm over the holidays, and it often changes day to day too.

We’d love to know, what’s one small summer routine or moment that works well in your household?

At Mindroom, we’re here year-round with guidance and support for families. Find out more at www.mindroom.org.

“I have made career decisions based on what I can cope with, not what I am capable of.”

Parents and carers of neurodivergent children are being pushed out of work, not by their children but because of the systems that don’t support them.

Join us on August 4th for the free online launch of our latest parent-led research. Hear from parents and carers and discover how employers and policymakers can better support them.

Today is the official UK launch of 'When Life Doesn’t Follow the Script' by Sophie Dow! 📖

This deeply personal memoir tells the story behind the founding of Mindroom, inspired by Sophie’s daughter Annie, and the journey that led to creating a charity that has now supported thousands of neurodivergent children, young people and families.

Marking Mindroom’s 25th anniversary, the book reflects on how one family’s experience helped spark lasting change, and the belief that systems should recognise strengths, not just challenges.

Every copy sold, of the limited 1,000 available, supports Mindroom’s ongoing work to ensure neurodivergent people are understood, included and able to thrive.

We’re so proud to be celebrating this launch as part of our anniversary, and grateful to everyone helping continue this mission.

Something special is coming this July as we continue to celebrate 25 years of Mindroom! 💜

We’re proud to share that Sophie Dow, our co-founder, is launching the English edition of her memoir 'When Life Doesn’t Follow the Script'.

This powerful book tells a deeply personal story inspired by Sophie’s daughter Annie, and the journey that led to the creation of Mindroom more than two decades ago, and the belief that every mind deserves to be understood, valued and supported.

Even more meaningfully, every one of the limited 1,000 copies available will be sold to support Mindroom’s work with neurodivergent children, young people and families across Scotland and beyond, with all proceedings donated to help with our mission.

We’ll be sharing more soon but for now, we’re looking forward to marking this milestone and the impact that has grown from one family’s determination to create change.
