There’s no such thing as the right thing to read.
Novels. Newspapers. Manga. Magazines. Poetry. Comics. Cookbooks. Travel guides...
Read a little. Read a lot. Read what brings you joy. Every read counts – and everyone is invited to join Scotland’s Wee Read on Wednesday 7th October.
Make your pledge in the library and collect a free sticker and bookmark (even for adults!) 📚

What a great flock of eleph...
"It's a herd of elephants."
Well of course I've heard of elephants!
A great Crafternoon today with our creative youngsters. The next one will be at 2:30pm on Friday 16th October, as part of our October holidays programme. Prepare for something spooky!

It's a Crafternoon week, and our prototype is ready to show off! We hold these sessions every two weeks at 2:30-3:30pm, ideal for children aged 4+ (but younger kids might need a bit of help with the trickier parts).
Our library safety elephant looks longingly at a model baobab tree. Come along to make your own and an extending-trunk elephant to enjoy it - with a lot more colour than I did.
We have enough toilet roll tubes for everyone, but if you would like to make a taller tree, you can bring along your own (finished) kitchen roll tube to use instead.

We are excited to announce our next author event! In three weeks on Monday 19th October, join Leona Thomas as she speaks about her books, research into family history, historical fiction, and her writing process.
If any of these topics interest you, please come along for 6:30pm. This is a free and unticketed event with refreshments provided beforehand.

Here is September's tip from NHS Lothian's Speech and Language Therapy team.
"I like it when you talk with me about the things I am interested in.
If you tell me words that go with those things, you are helping me to create connections between words and things in my world."

Have you heard of the ?
People in libraries, schools, workplaces, homes and more all over Scotland are being encouraged to celebrate the joy of reading on Wednesday 7th October. Anything counts: children's stories, non-fiction, graphic novels, audiobooks, newspapers! It doesn’t need to be from the library, but we are of course an excellent place to find something to read if you want some inspiration.
If you want to join in, please pledge at https://www.weeread.scot/ - all you need to provide is your age bracket and that you live in Edinburgh. You can also sign up as a group, if your whole book club wants to join in together.

From the end of next week, our colleagues in South Queensferry will not be open for roughly five weeks while they have some maintenance carried out.
As always, you can return any Edinburgh Libraries book to any other branch, or you can renew South Queensferry books until November when they reopen.
