As we prepare for our Preloved event at the end of the month, we have switched up our front display to show off eyewear through the ages. Featuring cases, cloths and bags from the practice in years gone by and retro eyewear. It is always fun to look back and see how the styles have changed, but often also as they come back around again!

Birthday celebrations! 🎂

We have a lot of big birthdays at the practice this year, so last week we decided to do a joint celebration while the sun was still out!

We had a fabulous garden party with afternoon tea plus face painting and temporary tattoos, because you are never too old to get your face painted! 🥳

Here’s the birthday girls along with the rest of the team and their works of art! 🎨 Everyone helped out decorating and baking to make it a wonderful evening.

Stunning for Shirley 🙌

We absolutely love this duo - theo eyewear model Daytona and Anne et Valentin model Transfigure with polarised grey-green lenses.

Both with Nikon Lenswear UK lenses, Shirley is set for day-to-day office wear, and when the sun is shining! Model Transfigure originally had clear lenses, but when Shirley loved both these frames and mentioned she was on the look out for a pair of prescription sunglasses too… it made perfect sense to transfer this set into sunglasses! Don’t they look perfect as sunnies 😎

This weekend our Beth is celebrating her 30th birthday! 🎈 You may have met Beth when she has greeted you at the front desk, or doing your prescreening scans. Doesn’t she look fantastic, and the cake looks pretty good too! 😍 from our faves Liggy's Cake Company 🎂

Beth is wearing model Strip from theo eyewear - a fun upswept style with overlapping lines, emphasising the contrast between the red and orange. Our Mae also crocheted the fabulous birthday crown for her too!

Bold in both black and bright 🖤🌈

We are in love with Sarah’s latest reading glasses - she couldn’t decide between the two so it just made sense to get both! Now she can switch it up depending on her mood and style ✨

First up is model 1408 from iconic British brand Cutler and Gross - a glamorous take on a 90s cat eye complete with chamfering and crystal edges. Then she couldn’t help but love model Esme from another British icon Kirk & Kirk 😍 in colour Jade she shines like the precious gem she is!

Our lovely optometrist Eve in her new Anne et Valentin 😍

Model ‘Well Well’ is described as ‘laid-back but not too casual’ - a perfect pair for work and weekend! A classic panto shape, Eve went for this modern shade of green with blue accents. Teamed with Nikon Lenswear UK Aspheric lenses to ensure the lenses are flat and neat to match the titanium frame, they are a perfect pair indeed!

Hay fever season can be particularly uncomfortable for the eyes.

A few things that may help:
• Cold compresses to soothe irritated eyes
• Lubricating eye drops to help wash away allergens
• Keeping windows closed on high pollen days
• Wearing sunglasses outdoors to reduce pollen exposure
• Avoiding rubbing the eyes, which can make irritation worse

For Stephen’s latest pair he has gone for model ‘O Quiet’ from the fabulous French brand. A perfect round, curvy bridge, classic yet just quirky enough. In this shade of raspberry red, we think this was the perfect fit for Stephen.

A little bit David Hockney inspired - an artist and eyewear icon who sadly passed away last week, so seems fitting to honour him with this nod to his iconic eyewear style.

Children’s eyes need protection from the sun too ☀️🕶️
It’s this time of year that many of us consciously ensure our children are well protected in the sun, regularly applying suntan lotion whenever they are exposed to UV. However, UV exposure can also affect the eyes and, because children’s eyes are still developing, more UV light reaches the back of the eye compared to adults. Over time, repeated exposure may contribute to eye conditions later in life, including cataracts and macular damage.

Good quality sunglasses with full UV protection can help protect young eyes while keeping children comfortable on bright days.

Any sunglasses with a proper UV protection label (look out for theCE quality mark). This is important even if you are wearing contact lenses with a UV filter, because the sunglasses will help protect the skin around your eyes, as well as the eye itself.are absolutely fine, they do not need to be expensive. Larger styles can offer better protection for the delicate area around the eyes and a hat provides another helpful layer of protection too.

If your child wears prescription glasses, prescription sunglasses can also be a great option, allowing them to swap easily between the two depending on what they are doing.

One of our lovely patients attended a light show at Edinburgh Castle recently and someone pointed out he was glowing in his new eyewear… Quite literally!

Model Ray from Kirk & Kirk in colour Apple is a stunning bright green even in daylight, but totally luminous at night!
