Darn Good Studio

Hello lovelies!
I’ve been very quiet on the socials lately, Darn Good has been gently ticking along in the background whilst I’ve been focussing on other projects - specifically one BIG project that has nothing to do with mending at all 😜
As I prepare to take some time away from work, I’ll be sharing some of the mends I’ve been getting on with over the summer and also shouting about the couple of pieces I have in the exhibition Broken / Makeshift at which opens next weekend (and I’ll be too rotund to make it sadly) so if you’re in the Leeds area please do go and visit! I’ll be sharing more about that soon.

In the meantime, I’m closing repairs and there won’t be workshops for a while - but be safe in the knowledge Darn Good will be back in 2026 🧶 🪡

So much damage to mend on this beautiful vintage Ballerina jumper!
Moths had got to it and seemingly loved the off-white yarn, going to town on the slippers that covered the arms of the jumper. This piece was a real joy to work on, but certainly took a while!!

I had a great morning at recently teaching a lovely group to darn!
There aren’t any more workshops until September now, which I am just about to book in so keep an eye out or sign up to my mailing list for dates.

A couple of lovely little sashiko style repairs on this vintage Levi’s jacket on the mending table last week.

A wonderful Wednesday evening spent teaching intro to darning with this lovely lot at - some beautiful darns came out of it using cashmere 🧶 🪡

I had a great morning at the weekend before last teaching core mending skills. We learnt backstitch, herringbone stitch, ladder stitch and the best way to sew on a button. All core skills that can fix most mending problems!

Tuesday afternoon was an excellent afternoon of meeting and mending at with a wonderful bunch of people! Lots of different damage to repair, we had darning, patching and a bit of sashiko too!

I’ve been away for far longer than I thought…

I planned on a summer break from social media and it ended up being the summer, autumn and winter. Whoops!
I’ve been working away in the real world, balancing mends with renovating our house on Dartmoor, working for the wonderful and waiting for a second foot operation which finally happened last week (I haven’t included a photo of that you’ll be glad to hear).
Now the foot is on the mend, I’m planning on getting back to workshops and full mending come March time. Hurrah! This is a reminder to sign up to my mailing list on my website and you’ll be notified when I’m back in action.
