Here it is….. Our long awaited & eagerly anticipated Christmas Fayre Menu.

We have spent a long long time creating what we believe to be the perfect selection of dishes for you all to enjoy throughout the Festive season.

Whether it be sharing an evening with family & friends, or enjoying a rare night out with workmates & colleagues, we have something for everybody.

Each dish has been thoughtfully created using only the freshest seasonal produce, to bring a sense of luxury & decadence to your Christmas get together.

WOW !!!!!!

Well, I’m not quite sure how to put this into words properly, but I’ll give it a go.

Here at The Diggers Rest, we have just won a highly coveted Tripadvisor Travellers Choice award for our restaurant.

This means that Tripadvisor believe our beautiful little pub / restaurant, tucked away in the even more beautiful, sleepy little village of Woodbury Salterton, is placed in the top 10% of restaurants IN THE WORLD…..

We genuinely cannot believe that we have been awarded this incredible accolade & the biggest thank you imaginable goes out to each and every one of our guests for giving the feedback that has lead to today.

Without you all, our business is nothing & everybody here at The Diggers would just like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The long days, the aching feet & the utter exhaustion have all just faded away upon opening today’s post & we could not be any more proud !!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH.

We may even raise a celebratory glass to you all later on this evening…. After service, obviously.

PART TIME BAR / RESTAURANT TEAM MEMBERS.

We’re currently on the lookout for some fantastic people to join our fantastic team here at The Diggers Rest.

The Role.

Part time restaurant and bar members.

Working within the team, we are ideally looking for experienced people, used to working to a high standard of service, however, training is available. The most important factor is you, your personality & your enthusiasm. The rest we can teach you.

Working front of house, you will assist in all aspects of service within a busy pub / restaurant.

The Hours

12-16 hours per week, to be made up of day time, evenings & weekends.

The Pay

We look after all of our staff & pay above industry norms for the right people.

Well time really does fly by when you’re having fun, it’s time for our Open Mic night here at the Diggers Rest, this coming Wednesday 2nd September, hosted by the amazing Rhythm & Shoes…

Calling all you super talented people out there! We provide the beverages you provide the talent, our musical ability is personally limited but we can pull a great pint!

Quiz night….. tonight, Tuesday 25th August from 6.30 pm.

We have a couple of tables still available for our fantastic quiz this evening, so if you’re at a loose end, pop along and join in the fun.

Our restaurant will also be open as usual this evening, but you may well get roped into answering a few questions to help the quizzers out a bit. We don’t mind 😂😂

Why ??????????????

As I sit this morning, in my 39th year of working in hospitality, I genuinely thought I’d seen the best and worst of humanity & that nothing can surprise me anymore….. But I was wrong !!!!

Throughout the hours of darkness last night, somebody or somebodies, who can only be referred to as subhuman, amoebic pond life creatures, decided to bestow upon us a gift of three dozen sacks of builders waste.

Granted, they were kind enough in the initial stages, to completely fill our refuse bins, in an effort to contain their disposal items, but sadly, I hadn’t been considerate enough to provide them with sufficient waste receptacles, so the remaining dozen or so sacks, were discarded in and around the general vicinity.

I’d like to apologise to Stig and co ( not the top gear driver ) for not thinking ahead and ensuring that we provided adequate refuse containers for your illegal, thoughtless & selfish requirements.

I’d also like to thank these individuals for allowing me to take time out of my already busy day to now remove EVERY SINGLE BAG & attempt to contact the relevant authorities, in order to remove said waste in a safe, legal and effective manner…… If only the local authorities could come up with a way in which people could responsibly dispose of their own waste…. Now there’s an idea…. I’ve even thought of a name for it…. They could call it a waste disposal & management centre… actually, that maybe a bit corporate sounding. Let’s call it a tip instead !!!

I consider myself to be a rational, level headed, if occasionally grumpy middle aged man, who likes to see the best in people, but this morning, I’m afraid the cup runs empty & I find myself openly wishing harm upon these pitiful, lowlife, verminous little rodents.

I can assure you all that once I have drawn this initial rant to its natural conclusion, I will spend a long time, endlessly trawling the CCTV hard drive, in an effort to establish the identity of the aforementioned pond life & if successful, will gladly update you with photographic evidence & vehicle registration details.

Until then, I bid you all ( except stig & co obviously) a good day & hope that if nothing else, our specific misfortune & my subsequent verbal chuntering has at least entertained you during your morning coffee.
