Challengers
Challengers is a charity dedicated to transforming the lives of disabled children, young people and their families through the power of play ✨
Challengers is a registered children's charity, established in 1979, dedicated to providing exciting and challenging play and leisure opportunities for disabled children and young people. We do this through our play and youth centres in Guilford and Farnham and through our range of community based projects across Surrey and, increasingly, the surrounding areas. A significant benefit of our service is that it provides families with short-breaks during high pressure times e.g. at the weekend or during the school holidays, enabling them to do ‘ordinary’ activities such as shopping or spending time with their other children. Families have told us that this lifeline of support keeps them strong.

💡 Did you know?
Over 881, 922 children and young people in the UK have ADHD. (~ADHD UK)
Yet many still face exclusion from everyday activities. At Challengers, our families tell a different story.
94% of our parent carers rate their child’s happiness here as 8/10 or higher, and 89% say we help reduce isolation and loneliness. Because when children and young people feel safe, understood and free to be themselves, the whole family thrives.
This ADHD Awareness Month, we’re proud to be a place where all are welcome, regardless of their diagnosis or needs.

Huge shoutout to Technics Group for their fantastic Orange October initiative in support of Disability Challengers! 🧡
As a company, they are running an internal Orange Challenge where colleagues can donate £5 and upload an orange photo for a chance to win a £50 Amazon gift voucher.
Even better, Technics will match the total raised, doubling the impact of every contribution.
This brilliant company effort will help create inclusive play and leisure opportunities for disabled children and young people so we can continue breaking down barriers so every child can have fun, make friends and thrive.
Thank you, Technics Group, for being true champions! 👏
If you are feeling inspired and would like to do something too, now is your chance. Find out more here: https://disability-challengers.org/events/support-challengers-this-orange-october-2026/

When Challengers goes orange, we go ALL IN! 🧡
To celebrate the first day of Orange October, the team dressed in weird and wonderful orange outfits including giant crayons, pumpkins, clowns, cheerleaders and even an orange Austin Powers…groovy baby!
We started with a carrot hunt around the office 🥕, leading on to fun team challenges, an orange-themed music quiz 🎶 and plenty of orange food and drinks.
Swipe through to see the Challengers crew turning every shade of orange into a costume! Which look wins your vote? 👀
Want to bring a little orange energy to your team? Host your own Orange Day this October and make it your own! 🍊

Orange October is ON.
Our team’s gone full orange for the month — feather boas, hard hats, juice shots, juggling oranges, full-body orange morphsuits, the lot.
You don’t have to match the chaos, just go orange in whatever way feels right. Wear it. Eat it. Drink it. Challenge a mate. Post it.
Join the fun however you like and help us to give disabled children and young people the chance to play, make friends and feel true belonging.

In celebration of Challengers' 47th birthday, we’ve been digging through the archives and taking a trip back to where it all began!
These photos take us back to the late 70s, 80s, 90s and early 00s - through changing fashions, some familiar faces (hello Matthew Kelly 👋🤩) and lots of happy memories.
Challengers has had many different names, logos and looks over the decades, but to this day our vision of "a world where all children and young people can play together, freely" remains.
If you were a young person, parent, volunteer, staff member, supporter or friend of Challengers during these years, we’d love to hear from you! Let us know if there's someone or something you remember and help us piece together more of our history 👇

🍊 Are you smarter than Team Orange?
We put our colleagues to the test with one very important question: where did oranges actually come from?
Let’s just say… their answers explain exactly why we’re hosting a Quiz Night. 😂
Think you can do better? Come put your brain to the test at our Orange Quiz Night on Thursday 15th October at our Farnham Playcentre.

Calling Challengers SEND families in Surrey – your voice matters! 📣
Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) are currently inspecting SEND services in Surrey, and they want to hear directly from parents, carers and young people about their experiences.
At Challengers, we know how important it is that the experiences of disabled children, young people and their families are heard and understood, so this is your opportunity to share what is and isn’t working for your family.
Ofsted has created a short, anonymous and confidential survey which you can complete here: https://ofsted.smartsurvey.co.uk/p/AreaSend/10436548
The deadline to share your thoughts is at 9am on Wednesday 30 September 2026.
Thank you for helping us make sure the experiences of Challengers families are represented 🧡
