A great bit of local history. The Arch can be seen from the Hut.

Admiralty Arch, c1974 .
The Triumphal Arch or Admiralty Arch as it was later known, was built to commemorate the landing here by King George IV & his visit to Anglesey in August 1821. The arch was part of the scheme designed by engineer John Rennie to improve the harbour which also included Admiralty Pier, Harbour Office and Customs House. Designed by architect Thomas Harrison & constructed of marble from quarries at Red Wharf Bay, the arch was built between 1822 - 1824. It cost just over £640 & was funded through public subscription. The Triumphal Arch was officially opened on the 6th of August 1824 in a ceremony presided over by the Marquess of Anglesey. The Grade II* listed arch marks the northern terminus of Thomas Telford’s A5 road from Marble Arch in London. It is situated on Salt Island - Ynys Halen beyond steel fencing within part of the busy working ferry port . Today the arch cannot normally be accessed by the general public for security & safety reasons.
