When Claire spotted this tiny soul during the day in a field near a road she contacted a national organisation to seek advice. She was told to keep an eye on it and put some food and water in the field - which she did for a couple of days. Feeling concerned Claire contacted our rescue on Saturday and it was very clear that ‘Sammy’ as she is now called needed urgent help.
Sammy weighed 110 grams and was very cold on arrival, she should have been in a nest with her mother to cuddle into, for both warmth and food. Sammy was popped into an incubator and once she’d warmed up she soon tucked into her food. Had she been left in the field she would not have survived.
So folks please share the message - hedgehogs should not be out in the day - it’s a huge indication that something is wrong and a hoglet this small has no chance of survival. Sammy is now receiving the care she needs - thank you Claire for persisting and listening to your own instincts - you’ve just saved a life. 👏❤️🦔

Diane contacted me in mid September. She explained that her daughter, Evelyn, a pupil of Errol Primary School, had been asked to choose a Scottish wildlife animal and create a factual poster all about it, Evelyn chose the hedgehog - good choice 👍. Evelyn and her mum visited the rescue and we spent some time talking about hedgehogs, Evelyn was also lucky enough to see a couple of the young hoglets in the rescue. After a chat about hedgehogs, Evelyn took away a little bit of homework, some leaflets and a book to help her design her poster.
I think you’ll agree this is a fabulous design - we love the way each hedgehog offers a different fact - we are always looking for new ways to share information- think we’ve just found one!

Heather was on her way to the gym when a neighbour flagged her down alerting her to a small hedgehog who’d been ‘bombing’ around the road during the day.
Heather and David have brought several hedgehogs to the rescue over the years, they provide hedgehog houses and feeding stations in their garden and locals know they will always try to help a hog in need. Heather phoned the rescue and brought this little one in.
Little ‘Bomber’ didn’t look too bad on arrival - though clearly very skinny and small. His p**p results offered the true state this little one was in - he has Coccidiosis, fluke and lungworm and is a very poorly little lad.
He has been in a few days now and is just beginning to find his appetite.
Don’t be fooled by how hedgehogs ‘look’ - they hide the fact they are ill like most prey animals do. We hope that with time and appropriate treatment Bomber will make a full recovery, wish this wee soul well ❤️🦔

When taking up decking in her garden Abbie made an unanticipated discovery - a hedgehog family!
They were all brought into the rescue and mum and her five hoglets were all placed together in a large outside hutch.
Once big enough the Hoglets were placed into separate hutches. Mum, Hazel, needed a little bit of TLC as rearing 5 young is hard work! Having regained weight Hazel was released back home yesterday.
Her 5 hoglets (1 boy and 4 girls), Button, Biscuit, Bubbles, Bongo and Bumper, remain with us until they too will be big enough to be released. Cute or what! 😍

‘Stubble’ went home last night! Back to Alyth where she was found ‘wobbling’ around in a field of stubble at the back of Fiona’s home. What a skinny poorly soul she was on admission, as you can see she’s now a lovely chunky, healthy hog! Have a great life out there Stubble ❤️👍

What a brilliant day the dog show was and what a great variety of dogs came along. The event raised £1088.45 for the hogs ❤️🦔❤️
A massive thank you to Pete Appleby and Maxwelltown Ringcraft for all their hard work in organising the event. We really appreciate their support.
The funds raised will be used to purchase 2 of the mother/baby pods. They are the same plastic material as the units we use in the CCU but larger. Much easier/quicker for cleaning and better for infection control. The remainder will be used to purchase medications.
Thank you to everyone that came along, all the stall holders including Carol and all the dogs and their 2leggers.

We received a lovely surprise yesterday. Heather Jackson contacted us to let us know that Alyth Out of School Care Group held a coffee morning yesterday. They raffled a hedgehog themed hamper made by Alyth Beavers and raised £35. Such a thoughtful and kind thing to do - thank you 👏👏👏❤️🦔
