Play can help children cope with the trauma of hospital visits, recover faster, and even face frightening treatments with calm and confidence.
In this blog, our founder Kate is joined by Megan Holmes, a Health Play Specialist at Leeds Children’s Hospital, and parent Cheryl Duerden, whose son Seth has experienced the transformative power of play therapy firsthand.

For a child, spending time in hospital can be scary. Noises, medicines, machines, needles, there is a lot for your child to process and deal with.
What if there was a team of specialists on hand to support your child physically, mentally and emotionally to cope with their treatment while they are there? A team to distract your child when they need it and support your child to do normal child activities - to have fun and play!
If you are unfortunate enough to have a child who has had to spend time in hospital, you may have met a Play Therapist. These amazing teams therapeutically support children, and parents, through the toughest times in their lives.
We hope you will never have to experience your child having treatment or an extended stay in hospital but if the worst happens, knowing what a play therapist can do and when you can ask for one could make a huge difference for your family.

What is it like to work for Mini First Aid? Here's a little snapshot of what some of our incredible network has been up to in July.
1. Julia, Mini First Aid Salford, Bury & Bolton, attended a business networking event and shared first aid skills with the group.
2. Manjula, Mini First Aid Southport, Wigan & Leigh was at a primary school in Wigan, teaching the whole school from Nursery all the way up to the 'nearly-high-schoolers' of year 6!
3. Amy & Helen, Mini First Aid High Peak, Tameside & Oldham and Mini First Aid East Cheshire & Northwich, were also busy teaching early years and kids classes - you can see from the expression on Amy's face here what fun these sessions are...never a dull class when teaching primary schoolers!
4. Nicola Mini First Aid Oxfordshire delivered an adult first aid awareness class to the head office team from British Franchise Association, an organisation that supports franchises across the UK.
5. Nicky, Mini First Aid Hull & East Riding, hosted a stall at an Armed Forces Day celebration in Leconfield, demonstrating and talking about all things first aid.
6. Did you know that we host classes in John Lewis & Partners stores across the UK? Richard Mini First Aid Milton Keynes & Northamptonhosted parents and carers and some adorable babies at Milton Keynes store this month.
7. Not content with running a busy franchise, our Mini First Aid Lancashire owner, Andrea, is running the Great North Run! She's picking up her running shoes after 25 years and raising money for the British Heart Foundation, and to kick off her fundraising efforts, she has a brilliant giveaway on her page to win lots of brilliant baby goodies - go enter!

⚠️ Save this post as a reminder that the main sign that your baby or child is choking rather than gagging is SILENCE.
If your child is gagging, you will usually hear them trying to clear their throat or the back of their mouth.
If your child is choking, there is a blockage in their airway, and they cannot make any noise.
