Jon Cocker
Alternative-folk guitar/singing drenched with incomprehensible mumbling between songs Jon Cocker plays a warm, full-sounding blend of alternative/folk music.
He grew up in Sheffield (UK) and played in bands in Leeds and Norwich. He uses his band experience to combine guitar with insightful, emotive vocals, playing at festivals in several cities, including Wild Paths in Norwich alongside the likes of José González. Performing regularly in Leeds, Sheffield and surrounding areas, his music has been likened to Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley, and captures all the emotion possible in this age of time pressures and distraction. "Next up, something a bit more subdued and contemplative in English singer-songwriter Jon Cocker’s “Green Blue”. Cocker’s excellent acoustic guitar playing, freewheeling sense for melody, soulful vocals, and intimate recordings on not only “Green Blue” but his entire self-titled EP make it easy to draw comparison between him and Nick Drake. As he sings “All my love fades to grey”, you feel the muted reality of heartache: no spectacle, just a lingering lack of colour. You can check out the rest of Cocker’s incredible EP here." - COUNTERZINE
"Jon Cocker is an authentic ... As a singer finding the middle ground between Neil Young and Jeff Buckley. Cocker’s got some of Young’s twang and a touch of Buckley’s rare vibrating sustain ... Sparse production is all that’s needed to aid in the illumination of this brilliant performance. Cocker effectively captures their aura in song." - The Wild is Calling
"Jon Cocker’s “She Moves Through The Air” is a delicate folk tapestry that weaves together introspective lyrics with sparse, emotive instrumentation ... The minimal arrangement allows each element to breathe, creating a sense of space that mirrors the song’s themes of freedom and perseverance ... Lyrically, Cocker paints a vivid picture of resilience and grace under pressure" - bsideguys

We're playing at Northern Guitars Cafe Bar, Leeds, tomorrow from 9pm (Sat 25th July).
I'll be playing an acoustic set with Matt on bass and clarinet from 9.
And then later at about 10 we're playing a full band set with electric guitar, so we'll be ranging from quiet folk all the way to something like glam(-ish) rock.
(...ok maybe that's going a bit far, but definitely a bit of rock and roll!)
See you there!

Had a great time at The Lantern Theatre, Sheffield the other weekend. It's a lovely, unique place to play and very much enjoyed listening to Carrie Martin who played a really great set.
Thanks to everyone that came to listen on a hot day (!) and to RoughDraftAudio for organising/promoting.
If you'd like to experience some acoustic music in person, I'll be playing at Crookes Social Club on Nov 17 for the "Acoustic Encounters" night also organised by RoughDraftAudio.

I'll be playing my first full band gig for a while - me on electric, Matt on bass and our new drummer Bill, this Saturday 9th May at Morley CIC Live, from 7.30 pm. It's like this but hopefully with colour and people (!)

Very much looking forward to playing at The Lantern Theatre, Sheffield on Sat 23rd May. Supporting Carrie Martin, as part of RoughDraftAudio's Spring shows. As you can see it's a very interesting venue, and the oldest working theatre in Sheffield.
