Vegan cookery school which also provides free nutritious meals to households struggling for food.

Made In Hackney opened its doors in 2012 as the UK’s first fully vegan community cookery school and charity. We collaborate with communities to showcase and develop skills, knowledge and inspiration to grow, cook and eat more plants. In March 2020 we paused our usual programme to launch a COVID19 response of online classes, telephone support for those not online, and an emergency direct to door community meal service. At the peak of the crisis we provided 500 meals a day across Hackney direct to households who needed support with food. Today we continue to provide meals and hope to be able to do so for as long as there is need. We aim to incorporate training and jobs for local young people into the community meal service. Made In Hackney is humbled to have collaborated with hundreds of partners from home cooks and community chefs, to grassroots collectives, festivals, charities, housing associations, schools, public health bodies, small businesses, global brands and even celebrities such as Jamie Oliver and Olivia Colman.

We’re proud to be recognised by the London Dangoor Awards 🏅

As a previous winner of the London Dangoor Awards, Made In Hackney was delighted to receive a 026 certificate recognising our outstanding service to faith and belief communities across Greater London!

The Awards celebrate the grassroots organisations and individuals helping to make London a fairer, more inclusive and connected city, so it means a great deal to have our work recognised again.

At Made In Hackney, food is about far more than what is on the plate. Through cooking, sharing meals and volunteering, we create welcoming spaces where people of different cultures, faiths, beliefs, ages and backgrounds can come together, build relationships and feel a stronger sense of belonging. 🫱🏾‍🫲🏼

We were honoured to receive the certificate from Dr David Dangoor CBE and Carrie Alderton, CEO of The Faith & Belief Forum, alongside so many inspiring organisations and community leaders from across London.

A huge thank you to The Faith & Belief Forum and the London Dangoor Awards, and to our incredible community, volunteers, participants, chefs, partners, supporters, staff and trustees.

This recognition belongs to everyone who helps make our community such a welcoming and connected place ✨

🍽️ Supper Club Announcement..

It’s been a while since we last gathered for an evening of good food, connection and community action, so we’ve prepared something very special for you.

On 20 October, 6–9pm, we’re hosting an exciting fundraising supper club at Palm2 Deli, curated by chef Helen Graham, one of the most exciting voices in plant-forward cooking.

Helen will be cooking delicious plant-based dishes inspired by her acclaimed cookbook, Centrepiece, with generous support and high-quality ingredients from our longstanding charity partner Mr Organic. A former Executive Chef of Bubala and member of the Ottolenghi test kitchen, Helen has been a long-time supporter of Made In Hackney, running masterclasses that raise funds for our programmes.

This won’t be your regular supper club. Think of it as our love letter to putting plants at the centre of the plate and at the centre of our communities. Every ticket helps fund a place for a local resident experiencing food insecurity, health inequalities or social isolation to join one of our joyful cooking classes.

➡️ Comment “SUPPER” for early access to the booking link, with all the event details. Full menu and link to tickets will go live on our Instagram next week.
