For months the Lisbon Marathon has been a date in the diary and a training plan on my phone. Today it became a piece of paper with my number on it, in a hall full of thousands of people all about to do the same daft, brilliant thing.

Tomorrow I run my first-ever marathon. It’s the biggest challenge of my JD 20 year, marking 20 years of Design JD by raising money for three charities doing vital work:

👉 Croydon Vision
👉 The Chartwell Cancer Trust / Children’s Cancer Trust

Web and digital

🏃 Race week is here!

After months of training, Jonathan is now just 5 days away from taking on the Lisbon Marathon ... his first-ever marathon.

The hard work is done, with just one final easy run on Wednesday before race day on Saturday 10 October.

This challenge is part of JD20, celebrating 20 years of Design JD by doing something positive and raising money for three brilliant charities:

It’s been a huge commitment alongside running the business, and now it’s time to trust the training and take on all 42.2km.

Design thinking
No ego in the studio. The best idea wins, even when it's not ours. Especially when it's not ours. Clients know their business better than we ever will our job is to translate it.

Studio culture
Process sounds dull until you've lived without one. Ours exists so the creative part has room to breathe. Structure buys freedom.

Brand building
Small businesses often think branding is a luxury for big companies. It's the opposite. The smaller you are, the more every impression has to count. You can't afford to be forgettable.

Video and motion
Motion directs the eye. A well-timed movement tells people where to look without a single word. Used badly, it just makes them dizzy. Timing is everything.

Design thinking
Clarity is a kindness. Confusing design makes people feel stupid, and nobody buys from a brand that makes them feel stupid. Make it obvious and they'll thank you with their attention.

Web and digital
Mobile-first isn't a trend, it's just where people are. If it doesn't work on a cracked phone screen on a train, it doesn't work. Design for the worst-case, not the showreel.
