Sue Ransley
I paint pictures of everyday folk. I’m drawn (no pun intended) to painting people.
I occasionally dip my toe into say, a landscape, only to find it empty without human beans in it. I want to capture the moment, that quirky mannerism, the hunch of the shoulder, the rolled foot – whatever it maybe, I see it, and see it as a painting. Sometimes what I’ve seen is obvious in the image, other times it’s about my imagination – having guessed at the persons background or thoughts at that precise moment, and I’m translating what I’ve seen onto the canvas/paper. Most of my work is in oil, but I am currently experimenting with watercolour and mixed media. I rely on my own photography for reference, as my camera, hopefully, catches the moment that caught my attention. Generally my work is Alla Prima, focusing on the essence of the image, rather than the finer detail.

More squirminess! One take. No edits.
I know, I know, it shows. But I want to focus on what Im doing and not all the blah.
Mums old watercolours are either empty, cracked and flaking, or very rust tinged. 😆 I was bought a beautiful new tin of professional watercolour (mwah, thank you ) but im staying with the rust bucket for this project.
More on Mum incoming. Lots of storytelling, memories, love, laughs, and occasional naughtiness!

Happy Friday!
Huge thanks to the fabulous team GalleriHeikeArndtDk Kettinge who have found these two their new home. 😊
Its surreal yet wonderful to think of people looking at my peeps over there in Denmark and choosing to take them home.
'Would you do my back dear?'
.... and now for something completely different!
A very personal project, all about my lovely Mum, Joyce Davis. Known as Joy - she could talk to anyone, and was warm, interested in you, and a bit naughty!! And all who spent time with her loved her.
She died on 13th July 1994.

Gods Gift
Painted a few months ago, just because. Spotted and sketched whilst on holiday, and painted when home.
And whilst this sort of everyday moment has been my stock in trade for while - wry candid observations - this will be the last of its nature for a while.
Early this year I set myself the challenge of staging my first solo show, and the topic, period, medium, approach - everything really - will be different.
I'll be sharing more soon, so stay tuned!! 😊
