• Early morning is particularly beautiful for mist, soft light and fewer people
• You can reach the area by public transport, then continue on foot to the viewpoints
• It’s especially worth adding to a road trip or Danube itinerary

Linz is a city where historic streets, impressive architecture and futuristic culture all come together. If you only have one day, here’s how we spent ours:

🏛️ Old Town & Hauptplatz – We started with a guided city walk through Linz’s historic centre with discovering the main sights and learning more about the city’s history.

⛪ St. Mary’s Cathedral (Mariendom) – Visit Austria’s largest church and admire its beautiful Gothic architecture and impressive stained-glass windows.

🚋 Pöstlingberg & Basilica – Take the historic Pöstlingbergbahn up the hill for panoramic views across Linz, then visit the beautiful basilica at the top.

🤖 Ars Electronica Center – One of the city’s most fascinating experiences, exploring the intersection of technology, art, science and the future.

☕ Coffee break – Of course, we had to stop for coffee and an Austrian sweet treat along the way.

🏨 Where we stayed: Leonardo Boutique Hotel Linz City Center – a convenient base for exploring Linz, with the Old Town and many of the city’s main sights within easy reach.
