Synthesis is a New Delhi Besed architecture and design firm doing innovative work rooted in rationalist and humanist ideals. The office’s small size allows agility and adaptability to various project types while preserving uncommon attention to detail in all aspects of the process - from the earliest real-estate and planning issues, through construction supervision, and even decor. Studio principal, Parvez Alam (B.Arch | Masters, University of Glasgow, UK) & Sachi Gupta (B.Arch) uses a problem-solving methodology, rejecting the formulaic and conventional. An imposed style or agenda never drive the design process, the work is reality based. Ultimately, the final product is a reasoned and appropriate response to the site, the programmed functions, the particular client, as well as the various constraints that ultimately inform and generate the design. In residential, commercial, and retail projects our office has continued to demonstrate that the pragmatic and functional needn’t be dry and soulless. Rather, it can coexist with aesthetic beauty, and do so without great expense. Many of our projects have overcome significant budget constraints, exploiting inexpensive and readily available materials and techniques, used in new ways, towards new solutions. Many of our projects also start from small, uninspiring spaces, posing technical difficulties with zoning, building codes, structural issues, or just not enough square feet. Unlike many firms who routinely reject such small, difficult, and less profitable projects, we have taken these “nothing” spaces and turned them into something. Resistance has continually embraced these challenges and gained valuable experience that is applicable to larger, more complex, and more costly projects as well. This has put us in an almost unique position in Delhi/ NCR to offer high-level design and service with incredible value.

A living space should do more than shelter you from nature.

It should bring nature in.

A pitched timber roof creates a volume that breathes.
Skylights trace the changing sky.
Light moves. Shadows shift.
The ceiling becomes a quiet record of the day.

Forest on one side.
Pool on the other.

The room becomes a passage between two worlds.

Monsoon. Winter. Summer.
Every season finds its way in.

Not architecture beside nature.
Architecture with nature.

For us, design has always been about curiosity, craft and creating something that feels considered rather than simply seen.

This award is a lovely recognition of that shared journey.

Not everything about design can be explained in a brief or a mood board.

Some of it lives in instinct. In the small, unconsidered moments — the way someone moves through a room, the things they keep and the things they discard, the split-second choices that reveal more than any presentation ever could.

We gave Parvez a True or False and watched exactly that happen. No time to prepare. No room to qualify. Just answers — and the instincts of someone who has spent years thinking about space, people and the relationship between the two.

The bedroom is always the most personal room we design. It’s where the day begins and ends — so every detail should feel considered, never contrived.

For us, bed linen is part of the architecture. We look at the weave, the weight, the border and, importantly, how the linen falls and holds its proportion across the bed. That small detail can completely change the room.

Here, we kept the palette deliberately quiet — whites, soft taupes, sage and the faintest blush. The embroidery picks up the geometry of the interiors, while wool throws add warmth without visual weight.

And then there’s the hand feel — the softness, density and drape.

Because the best luxury is rarely loud.

You see it in the details. You feel it in the room.

Paris needs no introduction. Neither does a point of view shaped over decades.

This September, Parvez Alam and Sachi Gupta join INDX|GLOBAL Paris Edition 2026, alongside voices shaping today’s global design conversation.

For Synthesis, Paris is not a destination, but a continuation — of a practice shaped between Delhi and London, and a belief in design rooted in place, culture and context.

The most compelling ideas emerge at the intersection of worlds.

Beyond aesthetics, towards meaning, exchange and conversations that endure.

More from Paris, soon.

In London, Tokyo, Paris — cities where every square foot comes at a premium — space is something you negotiate, not something you take for granted.

A bedroom therefore has a difficult brief: it must contain our lives without looking like it does.

Storage is essential, but so is silence. And the challenge for a designer is to make the practical almost invisible, leaving behind a space that feels generous, quiet and deeply restorative.

Because ultimately, luxury isn’t measured in square footage. It is measured in how a space makes you feel.
