If you want to try cold exposure without committing to an ice bath, start here:

• Finish your shower as normal, then turn it cold for 30 seconds
• Focus on slowing your breathing instead of fighting the initial shock
• Add 10 seconds each week if you want to build up
• Two minutes is more than enough
• Try it in the morning rather than right before bed

The immediate alertness is probably the part you’ll notice first. There’s some interesting research around mood and recovery too, but the bigger claims around cold exposure are still being worked out.

For us, there’s another reason to do it.

You’ve deliberately done one hard, slightly uncomfortable thing before the day has even started.

Sometimes that’s enough.

Who’s trying 30 seconds tomorrow?

If you’re pregnant or have a heart or cardiovascular condition, check with your GP before trying cold exposure.

The smoothie you should start making when the mornings get colder.

Simple, filling, and takes about a minute.

• 1 cup frozen mango or berries
• Large handful of spinach or kale
• 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
• 1 tsp fresh ginger
• 1 scoop collagen or protein
• 250ml water or milk of choice
• Pinch of sea salt

Blend for 30 seconds. Done.

The flax and greens bring the fibre, protein helps keep you full, ginger adds a little warmth, and the fruit makes it something you’ll actually want to drink.

Around 24g protein and 8g fibre, depending on what you use.

Save this one for tomorrow.

You don’t need a juice cleanse. Your body already has a detox system — and it’s working every day.

Here’s where the work actually happens:

1. Liver — processes compounds so your body can get rid of them. And yes, it needs actual nutrients to do that.

2. Kidneys — filter your blood and remove waste through urine. Staying hydrated helps them do their job.

3. Gut — helps move waste out of the body. Fibre matters here more than any “detox” drink does.

4. Lungs — you’re clearing certain compounds every time you breathe out.

5. Skin — plays a smaller role, but it’s still part of the picture.

So what actually helps?

Enough protein. Plenty of fibre. Cruciferous and bitter veg. Water. Sleep.

Not very glamorous. Definitely harder to sell in a bottle.

But your body doesn’t need a “flush”. It needs the basics, consistently.

Every September, the same searches start popping up. So here are the answers without the wellness fluff.

**“how to detox your liver”**
You don’t need a cleanse. Your liver already does the detoxing. Drinking less alcohol, eating a balanced diet and getting enough sleep are far more useful than any “flush”.

**“why am I so tired in September”**
Shorter days and changes in light can affect your body clock and sleep. Get outside in the morning, keep your sleep routine consistent, and if the tiredness sticks around, don’t just blame the season.

**“best detox tea”**
There isn’t a tea that “detoxes” your body. Some detox teas contain laxatives, which can make it feel like something dramatic is happening. That’s not the same as removing toxins.

**“3 day cleanse before or after”**
Neither. A big drop on the scale during a short cleanse is often largely water and glycogen, especially if you’re eating very little. Some of that weight can return once you start eating normally again.

Annoyingly, the boring answers are usually the useful ones.

What are you Googling at 1am? No judgement 👀

Five minutes before you eat: sit down, put the phone away, three slow breaths. That’s it.

Why it works:
1. Sitting still signals your body to switch into digest mode
2. Digestive juices start flowing before the first bite lands
3. You eat slower, so bloating and heaviness ease off

How to have it: do it before your two main meals, every day. One week is enough to notice.

Save this one — it’s a habit worth keeping.

Everyone’s doing the walk. But what are you actually bringing with you?

Ranked by how much they matter:

1. Electrolytes: Useful when heat, duration or sweat levels are up.
2. Water: The everyday baseline.
3. Protein or collagen post-walk: Think recovery rather than hydration.

Your needs will depend on the intensity, duration, weather and how much you sweat.
