A little sunshine for a one-of-a-kind ring ☀️✨

Designed and carved by hand in our Design Your Own Silver Ring Workshop, this silver ring features a fluid, wavy band with their own markings and engravings of flowers, hearts and stars.

They chose a teardrop blue topaz to finish the design, adding a bright blue detail to the silver. 💙

Once their carving was complete, we cast the design in silver, finished the ring and set the blue topaz here at Ringsmiths — turning their original carving into a completely unique piece of jewellery.

With all that beautiful natural light coming into the space, you can really see everyone getting stuck in and carving their rings from jeweller’s blue wax.

There’s something so lovely about taking a few hours out of your day to do something completely different — catching up with friends, learning something new, getting creative and just focusing on what’s in front of you.

No need to be artistic or have any experience. Just come along, get stuck in and see what you create.

Once you’ve finished your wax carving, we’ll take care of the rest. Your design is cast in silver, included in the workshop price, or you can choose to upgrade to gold.

After casting, there’s still some work to do — we clean up, refine and finish your ring before it’s polished and ready for you to wear. 💍

The sun is out, and so are the signets made by you in our Cast a Signet workshop ☀️

Here are three one-of-a-kind signets, each made from a cuttlebone mould carved by the maker. You get hands-on with the whole process — carving your own mould, choosing your signet shape and pouring molten metal into it.

Cuttlebone casting is an ancient technique, and the mould is broken open once the metal has been poured. Every casting picks up the marks, textures and little imperfections of its own mould, so no two are ever quite the same.

These three show variations of three different oval shapes, all finished with gold plating. Some have kept that beautiful fingerprint-like texture from the cuttlebone, while one has been finished with Mozambique garnets for an extra dusting of colour.

One of the best parts of running our Design Your Own Silver Ring Workshops is seeing the ideas people bring to life.
We had to shine a spotlight on this one.

Using our wide wax upgrade instead of the standard wax, this bold oval signet ring was carved by hand before being cast in silver. The maker chose to leave the file marks, creating a beautifully weathered texture, before carefully engraving the sweetest little bird into the surface. Tucked away on the side is a fingerprint too—a subtle, super personal detail that makes the ring completely unique.

We always say, “if you can’t draw it, you probably won’t be able to engrave it.” It’s one of the most challenging techniques in the workshop, which makes it even more exciting when someone pulls it off so beautifully.

To finish, we oxidised the engraving so the bird really stands out against the silver.

Every ring made in our workshops tells a different story, and this one is full of thoughtful details that will be treasured for years to come.

One of the most satisfying stages of making a silver ring.

Before any texture is added, the silver is carefully shaped using a rawhide mallet. Made from buffalo hide, it gently forms the metal without leaving marks, making it the perfect tool for creating a perfectly round ring.

Once the shape is just right, it’s time to switch to a metal hammer and add a hammered finish, giving each ring its own unique character.

We’ve been running our Ringsmiths workshops for over seven years, teaching people the traditional techniques needed to create a ring from start to finish. No experience is needed—just a willingness to have a go and make something you’ll wear for years to come.

With over 7 years of teaching experience and decades of jewellery-making knowledge between us (slightly scary to think about!), we’ll guide you through designing and carving your own ring in wax before casting it in sterling silver, or upgrading to gold.

The natural grain left by the cuttlebone casting process makes every piece completely unique, creating textures that can never be replicated.

This bold statement ring was created from one of our shield signet blanks during our Make & Cast a Signet Ring workshop. With a wide selection of shapes and sizes to choose from, each ring begins with a form that speaks to you.

From there, you decide how to finish it. Keep the organic cuttlebone texture or refine the surface for a cleaner look. You can also add gold plating, gemstones, or engraving by our master engraver to create a piece that’s uniquely yours. ✨
