Eastside is a professional organisation with creativity at its heart, inspiring young people from different backgrounds to discover their individual talents through creative workshops and sessions. We provide professional participatory workshops and guidance for all young people across the entire spectrum of the arts including: drama and performance, dance and movement, literature and spoken word,
‘What We Share’ by Sophia, Abigail, Tocarra, Tiffany and Trimoya, St Augustine’s CE High School
Last term, we welcomed 18 Primary, Secondary and SEND schools who took part in Spoken Word Power in London and across the UK, to the Criterion Theatre in London’s West End for a celebratory poetry sharing.
Over the course of 6 weeks, participating classes worked hard to write, edit and perform original pieces of spoken word poetry, responding to the theme ‘What We Share’ and guided by their Poet in Residence. The sharing event gave students a chance to stand on a historic stage, perform to an audience and share their creations with the world. We were deeply moved and inspired to witness such a powerful collection of poems that spoke to the experiences, observations, beliefs and traditions that make us human, and bring us together.
Spoken Word Power is a funded poetry programme, delivering in-person spoken word workshops in London, and working remotely with schools across the UK through Spoken Word Power Live.

Last month, we held our final Teacher & Artist training day of the ‘Who are we?’ project, hosted by our co- project lead, Cleveland Road Primary School, and what a way to mark the end of two incredible years!
The day brought teachers and artists from all six schools together to reflect on the progress made this year, and across the whole project. Teachers shared their key learnings and trial ran their own CPD activities, ready to take back and deliver to colleagues in their own schools.
It was a moving and inspiring day, with teachers sharing how the project has strengthened their relationships with pupils, boosted confidence all round, and inspired them to keep embedding these approaches across their schools in the future.
Teachers even wrote their own poems reflecting on their journeys through the project, which will be posted back to them in the Autumn term as a little reminder of just how far they’ve come.
“Remember to be brave! Strong! Confident! You can do this. Continue letting the children be free and creative. Believe in what you stand for and do it!”
📚 We’ll be publishing our findings from the project this Autumn, along with a practical resource for teachers and artists, so these learnings can be shared far and wide.

Last week we welcomed over 400 pupils from local East London schools to the amazing site, as part of our Street Art Project.
With each visit, pupils saw the unveiling of a bus mural they’d helped to design during in-school workshops, explored the site, and took part in a creative spray painting workshop with professional street artists.
The project invited primary schools to explore the theme “Love East London”, developing their own ideas to inspire a large scale mural painted onto a London bus based at Stratford Junction. It’s been a brilliant chance for pupils to see their creativity brought to life in a real public space, working alongside artists and thinking about what makes their community special 🎨🚌
