Do you live in a high-rise building that is:
๐Ÿ”ท18 metres tall, or 7 storeys or higher
or
๐Ÿ”ทOver 11 metres tall, where residents should evacuate (not โ€œstay putโ€) if there is a fire?

New fire safety regulations have recently been introduced in England to help protect residents who may need support evacuating their building in the event of a fire.

Weโ€™re holding webinars to explain to residents:
โ€ข What the new regulations mean
โ€ข What information your Responsible Person may ask for
โ€ข What your rights are

This week is National Fire Door Safety Week, a perfect time to remind you why we need fire doors and the vital role they play in protecting lives and property.

In the event of a fire, a door that you fit and maintain properly can help slow the spread of fire and smoke, giving people valuable time to escape safely. So take a moment to consider the following:

1๏ธโƒฃ Check the door has the correct certification and is suitable for its location.
2๏ธโƒฃ Make sure gaps around the door are even and within the recommended limits.
3๏ธโƒฃ Check that the seals around the door are present, secure and undamaged.
4๏ธโƒฃ The door should close fully into the frame without sticking or being obstructed.
5๏ธโƒฃ Check hinges, handles, closers and other hardware are secure and in good condition.

๐Ÿšซ Never wedge or prop fire doors open.
๐Ÿ“ฆ Keep them clear of obstructions.
๐Ÿ”ง Report any damage or faults with the door, frame, seals or self-closer.

Remember: a fire door is only effective when itโ€™s closed. A quick check today could help save lives tomorrow.

๐Ÿพ Our crews recently welcomed some adorable puppies from the Guide Dogs Ashford Branch for an important training session. ๐Ÿฆฎ

The future guide dogs experienced the sights, sounds and smells of a busy station, from unfamiliar noises and flashing lights to bustling surroundings, all in a safe and controlled environment.

It was a fantastic opportunity to help the puppies build confidence while allowing our crews to support their training journey. And, of course, a station full of puppies brought plenty of smiles too!

A huge thank you to everyone involved. We canโ€™t wait to see these little trainees take the next steps towards their very important future roles. ๐Ÿถโœจ

Would you know what to do if someone fell into the water on a night out?

If it happens:
โœ… Call 999
โœ… Do not enter the water
โœ… Throw them something that floats
โœ… Encourage them to float on their back

This Freshers' Week, we're supporting the campaign by sharing simple advice that could save a life. Help us spread the message and reach more students before an emergency happens.
