A nail biting day at Trawsfynydd. About 1 second per stage was all that separated the top 2 crews in both classes. As several crews discovered, one small error would cost you a prize or top result.

With less than a week to sort them, seven cars have been “fettled” and are back out this Sunday for Round 7 at the Gareth Hall Memorial Rally.

Preview - Gareth Hall Memorial Rally- Sunday 9th August 2026

We head to the asphalt of Trawsfynydd, North Wales for round 7 of the Mini Rally Challenge promoted by Bala Motor Club.

R53 class
Championship leader Sven Grube has spent all week getting last week’s winning Mini straight to lead the field away this Sunday. With the best 3 scores on each surface counting for the overall title, he can only add up to 6 points to his total by finishing first or second. Ben Hearsey, Andrew Otto and Henri Cynwyl can all add significant points to tighten it up at the top.
Even with last weeks DNF a win by Otto would actually take him to the top of the table, courtesy of his better gravel scores.
Consistent John Day needs a top 5 finish to drop a lower score.

R50 class
Catherine Bell returns this week after missing the Pendragon Stages and she only needs 9 points to overtake leader Kevin Ablitt who takes a break. Ryan Evans will be looking to repeat his strong 2nd place last week and move towards the top of the table.
Sammy Green who is focussed on the black stuff could virtually tie up the asphalt cup with 2 wins in consecutive weeks.
Evan Barker and Jody Bevington will both be keen to forget their non-finishes last week.
Newcomer Brynmor Jones is an unknown quantity with Max Freeman sat alongside.

It looks like dry weather is in store - let’s see where we are as we go into a month break.

Relatively short stages for this event - BUT you have to do three of them before service.

Another great entry of 15 Challenge Minis! The forecast of 75% chance of rain could make it tricky!

This is known as a great test venue for Irish or Manx asphalt.

Breaking news!! - BRC Star joins Mini Rally Challenge.

Max Freeman usually navigates Sam Touzel towards the front of the British Rally Championship. This weekend he will be guiding novice Bryn Jones around the stages at The Gareth Hall Memorial Rally for round 7 of the Mini Rally Challenge.
