Learning a musical instrument connects the senses and provides an outlet for the
emotions.
As a professional cellist I have experienced this synergy as a soloist with orchestras and chamber groups and feel that music is something that starts with the first
listener - the person creating that sound.
I have more than 20 years of teaching experience from beginners to advanced students, ages 5-77!
I provide cello lessons, private and group lessons, chambers music coaching, music provision from age 3 and ABRSM Graded Preparation.
Learning to play an instruments has amazing benefits. Research has shown that playing an instrument stimulates the brain in unique ways, leading to improved cognitive abilities. It helps to regulate emotions and provides an outlet for emotions and managing stress. Learning to play an instrument requires coordination and control, which improve physical coordination and discipline. And not to forget music is FUN. Being able to create sound is an amazing experience at any age!

Experts widely recognize music as one of the most powerful skills children can learn, with profound effects on brain development, focus, confidence, and long-term success. According to GreatSchools org, playing an instrument engages the same brain regions involved in language, memory, and critical thinking. Music training strengthens neural pathways, improves auditory processing, and enhances verbal memory, skills that directly support academic achievement.
Stanford researchers even found that mastering an instrument improves how the brain processes spoken language, making music especially beneficial for children struggling with reading or communication.
Music also boosts emotional and social development. As noted by Psychology Today, learning music activates the brain’s dopamine reward system, which increases motivation, mood, and perseverance. Children who experience progress in music often develop a stronger sense of self-worth and confidence, which carries over into other areas of life.
Furthermore, Lonestar Neurology highlights that music stimulates multiple brain regions simultaneously, promoting better problem-solving, pattern recognition, and hand-eye coordination. These cognitive benefits are long-lasting and contribute to overall mental agility and resilience.

EFT for musicians
Do you struggle with performance anxiety? Exam nerves? Do you have physical issues or pain when you play or sing? Do you have a negative experience related to performing, music education or any other experience that still negatively interferes with your playing?
Is there something which is holding you back? Is there something you would really want to change or feel differently about? Working on limiting or blocking beliefs about your playing or singing can be very rewarding and change your experience and enjoyment of making music and performing.
