💭 Immigration Myths We Hear Every Day

Immigration law can be complex, and there’s plenty of misinformation out there.

❌ “I can switch to any visa from inside the UK.”
Not necessarily. Some immigration routes require you to apply from outside the UK.

❌ “Once I’ve lived in the UK for 5 years, I automatically get ILR.”
There is no automatic entitlement after five years. The qualifying period and requirements depend on your immigration route and circumstances.

❌ “If I marry a British citizen, I automatically become British.”
Marriage to a British citizen does not automatically give you British citizenship.

❌ “All visa applications have the same requirements.”
Different immigration routes have different eligibility and evidential requirements.

Fee Waivers and Your Immigration Status - Why Timing Matters⌛️

If you need to make an immigration application but cannot afford the application fee, you may be able to apply for a fee waiver.

However, the timing of the fee-waiver request and the immigration application that follows can be extremely important.

We recently assisted a client who had previously been advised to make a second fee-waiver request after their first request was refused. Although the second request was eventually granted, their previous immigration leave had not continued as expected.

This subsequently affected another immigration application.

The important message is simple: don't assume that making another fee-waiver request will automatically protect your existing immigration status.

If you're unsure about a fee waiver or how it could affect your immigration status, getting advice at the right time can be particularly important.

A Skilled Worker visa allows eligible people to come to or stay in the UK to work for an approved employer.

But having a job offer isn't enough on its own.
Your application will usually depend on several requirements, including:

🔹 Having a valid Certificate of Sponsorship
🔹 Your job meeting the relevant eligibility requirements
🔹 Meeting the applicable salary requirements
🔹 Meeting the English language requirement
