Changes East Lothian - Autumn Newsletter 2026 10/09/2026

Just published: "Changes East Lothian - Autumn Newsletter 2026".

Changes East Lothian - Autumn Newsletter 2026 We have had quite an incredible Summer with high temperatures and enough weeks without rain, for us to eagerly anticipate the change of season. The drizzly rain, the lower celcius and cooler breeze in the air is much welcomed. The first leaves of Autumn have begun to fall and with this natural chang...

September 10 marks World Su***de Prevention Day. 2026 marks the third and final year of the triennial theme for World Su***de Prevention Day (2024โ€“2026), Changing the Narrative on Su***de, with the call to action: Start The Conversation.

This theme calls on us all to challenge harmful myths, reduce stigma, and foster open, compassionate conversations about su***de. It is about shifting from silence and misunderstanding to openness, empathy, and support, creating environments where people feel able to speak up and seek help.

At Changes we know that creating time and space to explore our difficult emotions and thoughts is invaluable, but we also know that having someone who is happy to hear and able to offer support is essential. We offer multiple different training courses to help build confidence and skills for anyone who wants to take on such a role. And now we have a new one.

SALT (Su***de Awareness Letโ€™s Talk) is our brand new conversation led session around su***de prevention based on identifying common concerns we all have about starting a conversation with someone we are concerned about. We look at where these fears come from, what does the evidence tell us, and how can we overcome the barriers we experience.

We believe that su***de is just one of many uncomfortable subjects that we need to talk about โ€“ we believe that everyone has the skills to discuss difficult topics and that confidence is the key.

Su***de prevention is a scary road to navigate โ€“ but itโ€™s easier if we do it together. We would love to talk to you about how.

๐Ÿ†• It's World Su***de Prevention Day and so we're thinking of everyone who has lost someone they love. ๐Ÿ’œ

Today we're publishing our new film, What I want you to know.

It tells the story of Phil Wanless and his son Fraser, who died by su***de in 2021.

Phil goes on a journey to explore the impact of bereavement, substance use, relationships and trauma and how that ultimately led to Fraser's death.

This film is really difficult, but so important, to watch.

If you do watch it, please make sure to look after yourself.

If you're concerned that someone close to you may be thinking about su***de, asking them directly could be the first step in helping them get support.

World Su***de Prevention Day is next week on 10 September 2026, and we're focusing on one important question:
"What if a conversation could save a life?"

If you think someone is struggling, our practical guide to asking the question can help you feel more confident to start a conversation.
