Window failed shut in Nottingham. Diagnosed in seconds, a failed connection between handle and gear. Opened without a mark on frame or glass, new gear fitted, working again in one visit. A stuck window is a part, not a new window.

Timber door jamming every single time. Not the lock: the door had shifted and was loading the whole mechanism. Hinges repacked, strikers readjusted, and a new TS007 cylinder because the keys were damaged. Opens with a fingertip now.

City-centre tattoo salon, NG1. The shopfront lock had been quietly failing for a couple of years. New mechanism in, plus a matching set of cylinders so one key runs the whole unit. Commercial doors take a beating, and they're on the van every week.

A Nottingham restaurant's front door: banging on the frame, scraping the floor. Underneath, a snapped bottom pivot, the wrong closer, and a pivot fitted in a way that was never going to survive a busy entrance. Repaired a year ago, failed already. This time: door off, surface prepared, new pivot, correct closer, tested through the full swing. Swipe for the sequence.

A 3-star cylinder, seized after months of WD-40. Stripped, cleaned, saved. WD-40 isn't a lubricant, it's a degreaser: it strips the lock's own grease and graphite, then dries sticky and collects grit. Use a proper lock l**e (dry PTFE or graphite, like the ABUS PS88 here), a tiny bit, once or twice a year. A stiff key wants a service, not a soaking.

Lock stopped working on a composite door. Ian repaired and replaced the mechanism, and the customer chose to upgrade to a high-security anti-snap cylinder while the door was open. Options for every budget, priced before the work starts, you choose.

Emergency job: uPVC front door, mechanism failed, door wouldn't secure. Ian out, mechanism replaced, locking again the same visit. Most evening emergencies on uPVC doors are the gearbox and nothing else, and it's on the van.

Broken handle and a failed mechanism on a uPVC door, and the culprit underneath: a cracked backplate. New gearbox, new handle, aligned and locking. The door itself was fine, it usually is.

Booked for a simple alignment. The mechanism didn't feel right, so we took it out: backplate cracked, not yet snapped. Replaced on the spot, before it became a lockout. Old and new side by side. Repair before disaster is always the cheaper visit.

Composite door, stopped locking. Mechanism out, and there it is: the gearbox backplate snapped clean, so the handle was lifting nothing. New mechanism in, locking again the same visit. A handle that keeps getting stiffer is this fault on its way.
