Behind those doors, you’ll find community and friendly faces, music lessons and workspaces, free to work in with all the WiFi you need. Libraries are the poster child for borrowing too – and not only printed books. Download ebooks and audiobooks. Stream films and music. Trace your family history from the archives. It’s sustainable, free and online. So whatever it is you’re looking for, a librarian can help you find it. LibraryOn is the new way to discover your local library and all that it can do for you. Hove Library contains the Wolseley Collection, named for its creator, Viscountess Frances Garnet Wolseley.
Having founded Glynde School for Lady Gardeners and written books like Women and the Land, she later turned her attention to advocating for females' capabilities in the fields, allotments and gardens of Britain, particularly as a response to labour shortages during World War I.
The Wolseley Collection also houses the papers of her father, Viscount Wolseley; a decorated military leader, today you'll find a statue of him on Horse Guard's Parade in London.
His papers include letters from many notable figures from history and literature, including Winston Churchill, Queen Victoria, Henry James and Thomas Hardy.
