Halfway through our Bridgend project…

“A lifeline of people who help and understand.”

That’s how one parent described our Parent Carer Peer Support, and we think that says it all.

With funding from BAVO, we’re bringing FREE, parent-led peer support into communities across Bridgend County Borough Council area creating welcoming spaces where parents and carers can connect, share experiences and feel understood.

And halfway through the project, we’re already seeing the impact:

✨ 8 activities delivered
💜 30 new participants
🌱 16 people connected with wider BSH support
📍 Porthcawl, Bryncethin & Bryntirion
💬 94% found peer support helpful or extremely helpful.

Our sessions offer a space to talk, listen, share practical ideas and connect with other parents and carers who get it.

No referral. No diagnosis required. Completely FREE.

We’re only halfway there, and there’s lots more to come!

Thank you to BAVO for helping us bring support closer to families.

A great day connecting with families and organisations in Bridgend!

Today, Behaviour Support Hub had the pleasure of attending the Citizens Advice Bridgend Open Day, bringing together a fantastic range of organisations supporting people and families across the local community.

It was a really positive day of new connections, familiar faces and meaningful conversations.

We had the opportunity to:

🤝 Meet new families and parent carers and offer information about the support available through Behaviour Support Hub.

💬 Catch up with organisations we already have partnerships with and talk about how we can continue working together.

🌱 Make new connections with organisations and services we’re looking forward to developing relationships with.

A huge thank you to Citizens Advice Bridgend County Borough for hosting such a welcoming and valuable event and for bringing so many organisations together.

It was fantastic to connect with TuVida, Special Families, Shelter Cymru, SNAP Cymru, Employability Bridgend and Barnardo's Cymru, alongside everyone else who joined us today.

We’re looking forward to continuing the conversations, strengthening our partnerships and finding more ways to work together to support families.

Together, we can help make sure families feel connected, listened to and supported.

We’re heading to Bridgend tomorrow!

We’re looking forward to joining Citizens Advice Bridgend County Borough and a fantastic range of local organisations at their Open Day.

📅 Tuesday 29th September
⏰ 9:30am–3pm
📍 26 Dunraven Place, Bridgend, CF31 1JD

It’s a great opportunity to come together, meet local organisations and find out more about the support available to families across the community.

As Behaviour Support Hub, we’ll be there to share more about the support we provide for parent carers and families of children and young people with additional needs — and, just as importantly, to build connections with other organisations so we can work together to better support families.

We know that families can sometimes have to navigate lots of different services to find the right help. Building stronger connections between organisations can help make that journey a little easier. 💛

If you’re there tomorrow, come and say hello — we’d love to meet you! 👋

“Progress doesn’t have to be big to be worth celebrating.”

As children return to education, it’s important to remember that progress looks different for every child.

For a neurodivergent child, success might be getting through the school gates — but it might also be managing part of the day, asking for help, building trust with an adult, or taking a small step towards accessing education.

These achievements can be easy to overlook when the focus is primarily on attendance, attainment or what a child is currently unable to do.

Understanding and recognising those small steps matters.

At Behaviour Support Hub, we work with families, schools and professionals to build understanding of neurodiversity and support children and young people to thrive.

Sometimes, meaningful progress starts with recognising what a child can do and building from there.

What small signs of progress do you think we should be better at recognising?

Sleep can be complicated for neurodivergent children and young people.Sometimes what looks like bedtime resistance is actually anxiety, sensory overload, difficulty switching off or a nervous system that is still working hard.

Before focusing on How do we get them to sleep?, it can help to ask What might be making sleep difficult for them?

Small changes, made with understanding rather than pressure, can make a real difference. 💙

Bringing support closer to families 💛

What does support look like when it comes closer to home?

Here’s a little look at our Managing a Meltdown workshop in action.

For parent carers, understanding what’s behind distressed behaviour can make a huge difference. Our workshops create a safe space to talk openly, share experiences and explore practical strategies that can work in real family life.

Through our Hyper Local work, we’re taking this support directly into schools and communities across RCT, making it easier for parent carers to access information, advice and peer support where they live and where their children learn.

And we’re not stopping here.

We’re continuing to work with schools across RCT and are looking ahead to more workshops and coffee mornings, bringing parent carers together to connect, learn and support one another.

This work has been made possible through funding from The Waterloo Foundation and Awards for All.

🏫 Would your school like to host a Behaviour Support Hub workshop or coffee morning?

A little time for parent carers

Yesterday, we welcomed parent carers to our Wellbeing Lunch at Stiwdio 37 in Pontypridd.

A chance to pause, relax, chat, connect and enjoy some well-deserved time for themselves.

And the food was amazing! 🍽️ A huge thank you to The Alamo Room Café at Stiwdio 37 for providing such a delicious three-course lunch and making everyone feel so welcome.

It was lovely to work alongside another charitable organisation to create this special opportunity for parent carers.

Because parent carers deserve to be cared for too.

With thanks to Interlink RCTI, Amser Short Break Fund and Carers Trust Wales for helping make it possible.

What would you like to see next?

If we’re able to secure funding for more parent carer wellbeing activities, what would you love us to organise?

A creative activity, a meal out, a pamper session, a day trip — or something completely different?

We’d love to hear your ideas! 👇
