Why sign language rights matter 💙
For Deaf people, access to sign language isn’t simply about communication; it’s about being able to learn, participate, make choices and have your voice heard.
From education and healthcare to employment, public services and everyday life, language access can make the difference between being included and being left out.
Sign language isn’t a barrier to inclusion. Access to it is part of inclusion.

There are a lot of misconceptions about British Sign Language, from thinking it’s just English on the hands, to assuming every Deaf person uses it.
So, let’s set the record straight 👇
BSL is a complete language, with its own grammar, structure and regional variations. And just like spoken languages, it takes time and practice to learn.
