GET Free Books Rotherham

Thank you for all the follows and likes lately (including the fantastic The Three Cranes - Rotherham). It's nice to see everyone's still supporting us ❤️

We have just been informed that- to be able to park on High Street on Sunday- we have to pay £20 for the permit, or be charged £60 every time we park.....which, with hundreds of boxes of books + furniture, will be at least 3 or 4 times 🫠 Despite us being a charity (and one who benefitted the town while we were open), this fee is apparently non negotiable.....so it's been paid, but we really should have been told when we made enquiries 🤷🏻‍♀️

We're going to need some help.....

Since we have a new shop to store our books in (in the centre of Rotherham), we are DESPERATELY in need of shelving. Bookcases (that are sturdy), shelving units from shops (these are preferable), tables- anything that a book can be stored on safely. Please keep in mind we are a charity and unfortunately do not have access to a van.

Hi all,
We come with a request today! We have to move all our books out of the bus station unit they're stored in asap, and luckily we have a new place to store them at 23 High Street! That means we need strong volunteers (believe me, the boxes are heavy!) to help us load the van at the bus station and unload at the premises on high street. It will probably take two trips for all the boxes. This will be on Sunday 13th September at 10am. If you can help, please let us know! Thanks x

RIP Dolly Parton. Not a day went by in the shop where we didn't receive a copy or 2 of her imagination library books. She changed many people's lives, not just with her music but with her philanthropy, including the hundreds of millions of books she gave to children over the years.

Global icon and humanitarian, Dolly Parton, known to the world as a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old.

Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Carl Thomas Dean (1942 – 2025), her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens (1923 – 2003), and father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr. (1921 – 2000).

A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.

At Dolly’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family. Dolly’s fans and friends from around the world are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging or by leaving a message at www.dollyparton.com

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at www.imaginationlibrary.com

Hi all,

We unfortunately need to move the books to a storage area just outside town, so we're looking for anyone with a van (or any companies you can recommend) to give us a quote. We're looking for a removal type van as we have lots of boxes and furniture to move.
Please leave a comment or message us,

Thanks everyone.

Thank you for thinking of us, xylia. From your mouth to Rotherham councils ears? (From page 18, today's Rotherham Advertiser)

Today marks a year since we closed our doors for the last time.
We miss being open more than we can say and we would do anything to be able to reopen as soon as possible, please believe us. Honestly, I think we all expected to be open again by now, but unfortunately it hasn't been as easy as we expected.
A big thank you to Sheila, who- on top of being the best lead volunteer we could ask for- has spent the past year fighting to find us new premises, despite everything (and everyone!) seemingly being against us.
And a huge thank you to the customers who continue asking about us.

How good does this sound?

Anyone else really loving all the adaptations of books lately, both on TV and the big screen? Bridgerton (4 seasons (almost) and counting), Heated Rivalry, Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Faraway Tree, Hamnet, The Odyssey....the list goes on. What is everyone else loving or looking forward to?

Dearest gentle reader,

It seems we have a rather special announcement.

The ton are abuzz with the latest gossip, and it is my honour to impart to you: Potteries Tea Rooms will soon announce their Bridgerton themed afternoon tea.

Gentle reader, be patient. All will be revealed in the next coming weeks

Yours truly, Lady Whistledown
