🏁 The Kart Championship – Round 6 | Whilton Mill 🏁

A positive weekend for us, showing some really good pace during Friday’s practice sessions. We couldn’t quite carry that over into Saturday’s qualifying and heats, but we definitely made some big progress on Sunday 💪🏻

Qualifying – P28 in group
It was incredibly close, with only 8 tenths separating the front to the back of the group. Unfortunately, my rear axle hub moved in, costing me around three tenths and probably about eight places on the grid.

Heat 1: P28 ➡️ P24
Had okay pace but struggled to get the overtakes done on track.

Heat 2: P27 ➡️ P21
We changed the gearing to try and help with overtaking, but unfortunately it actually cost us some pace. I still managed to move forward, with a few more places gained from penalties handed out after the race.

Sunday

🌧️ Superheat 1: P24 ➡️ P19
Full wet conditions. Managed to keep it on the black stuff and stayed out of trouble to bring it home with some good overtakes, then gaining a few more positions after post-race penalties.

🌦️ Superheat 2: P24 ➡️ P13
This one was interesting! We started on a dry track and slicks, but three laps in the rain came down. Lots of karts were going off, but Dad had opted for a mixed setup before the start which worked really well for me as the conditions changed.

11 places gained and our best result of the weekend 👊🏻

Unfortunately, even with double points from the Superheats, it wasn’t quite enough to promote us into the A Final, so it was off to the B Final/Repechage.

Repechage: P11 ➡️ P21 💦
Another wet race, I was unlucky to pick up a drop-down nose on the false start.. avoiding action was needed several times during the race and then the nose cone started making the steering difficult, causing me to spin and drop me out of contention.

Obviously disappointed not to make the A Final, but overall this weekend has been a massive boost for my confidence. We showed that we can run at the front of the mid-pack and fight our way forward 🏎️👊🏻
