On behalf of everyone at Strabane Cricket Club, we are immensely saddened to hear of the passing of Paddy ‘Poke’ Gillespie.

Paddy was a truly special character — a man with the greatest sense of humour, always ready for a bit of craic and a good carry on. He had a personality that was impossible to forget, and his presence brought laughter and warmth wherever he went.

His passion for cricket was evident throughout his life. Paddy dedicated countless years to the sport, both as a player and, for the vast majority of his life, as a groundsman. His commitment and love for the game played a huge part in the life of our club, and his contribution will never be forgotten.

That passion for cricket was proudly passed on to his family. Alongside his beloved Mary, Paddy inspired his sons Michael, John, Mark and Peter, as well as their children, many of whom have proudly represented Strabane Cricket Club at both club and international level. His influence on the Gillespie family and, in turn, on our club, will live on for generations.

Paddy was a true gentleman and, quite simply, one of a kind. At Strabane Cricket Club, we often say that we are more than just a club — we are a family. At this time we all feel that we have lost a part of our family.

While our thoughts are with Michael, John, Mark, Peter and the entire Gillespie family at this incredibly difficult time, we take some comfort in knowing that Paddy is now reunited with his beloved Mary.

Paddy, you were a true legend of Strabane Cricket Club. We are forever grateful for everything you gave to our club, our sport and our family.

Rest easy, Poke. You will never be forgotten.

From all of us at Strabane Cricket Club, thank you for the memories, the laughter and the countless years of dedication.❤️🖤
