Veseyans Rugby

An impressive performance from the 2nd XV who may feel they left four points in Pershore but will be hoping to continue their development as they travel to Old Yardleians next weekend.

RESULT: Pershore 29-24 Veseyans II
MOTM: Dylan Lindford

Veseyans opened their season with a tough test of their credentials as they hosted Crewe in an opening day fixture which is a feast for neutral.

Crewe started the brighter and capitalised on early mistakes by V’s to race into a 14-0 lead before Veseyans were able to strike back. With their first visit into the Crewe 22 V’s were able to recycle the ball well until Jack Ward was able to crash over in the corner to narrow the deficit. Crewe again however were able to stretch their lead out to 19-5 through another loose ball before a stoppage in play allowed V’s to regroup. When play resumed with only 10 minutes left in the half it was all V’s it was soon 19-12 as a catch and drive sucked in the Crewe defence and the ball made its way out to Luke Cox who took three defenders over the line with him. The half closed out with no further scores.

Veseyans started the brighter but with their first foray into the V’s half Crewe were able to stretch their lead before being pegged back by a try for Josh Raby-Gordon. The next 15-20 minutes were pretty even before Crewe were able to score two quick tries to leave themselves 14 points clear with only 10 minutes on the clock. V’s were now piling the pressure on and Crewe couldn’t withstand the pressure as Gilly was able to dash over out wide with Charlie converting to narrow the Crewe lead to 7 points. From the kick off V’s again found themselves in the Crewe 22. Phase after phase was repelled before Coxy was able to crash over out wide to mark the end of the game.

RESULT: Veseyans 31-33 Crewe & Nantwich
MOTM: Adam Ward

Whilst V’s didn’t gain the win they will be buoyed by the second half performance and will hope to carry that momentum into next weekend when they face Stourbridge Lions.
