Creativity In Care
Creativity In Care is a Community Interest Company (social enterprise) for social benefit. All proceeds are used for the work.
Creativity In Care is a values-led Community Interest Company based in Caithness, bringing people together through socially engaged arts, creative workshops and shared experiences that spark wellbeing, inclusion and joy. It is a non profit organisation as there are no shares and assets are locked.. Creativity In Care promotes quality of life, inclusion and joy in care services and community settings. Founded by Karrie Marshall in 2012. We develop and facilitate online and in-person creative workshops and programmes requested by individuals or organisations in our communities with a wide range of people. People describe the work as 'uplifting, meaningful and joyful'. This has a positive impact on health and wellbeing. We work in partnership with well over 600 people per year plus several third sector social care partners. Our exhibitions and books reach even more people, and it is with great pleasure that we can now sell kits and books directly to individuals. These sales help us to offer free services to people who find themselves in situations that make paying for a kit or programme difficult. The work uses the BICEPS model of connection (KM2012) which combines creativity, mindfulness, intention and self awareness and is fully focused on what wellness means to individuals, regardless of health or social conditions.

A beautiful, insightful and reflective piece that I am sure will resonate with many - thank you for sharing Karrie.
( creative health and arts practitioners)
I was once asked whether creative practitioners need any emotional support because they have all the fun don’t they?
It’s an interesting (and perhaps common) point of view.
The emotional rewards can be remarkable. Creative health practitioners often share beautiful stories of the times their practice, trust and process enabled people to reach for something they didn’t know they could do.
Witnessing a participant’s increased confidence, smiles, pride and sense-of-self feels utterly vivacious.
When family members and the people they care about create something together, the artist realises they are witnessing the birthing of a family story about this day or this piece of art, which will become part of that family’s history. That is special.
The work makes a positive meaningful difference – which is a nourishing experience for the artist too.
Some artists have a particular artform and distinct skills that are perfectly re-useable. Their work develops through repeating and refining the same formats. Change occur through dynamic discourse and an exchange of ideas and experiences with each session.
But there can still be long periods behind the scenes; sitting with self-doubt and anxiety about whether the project will work this time. That can be lonely.
Some creative practitioners need time to simply sit with an idea without having any solid structure or plan or vision. Just holding onto a delicate sense that ‘something’ needs time to germinate and show itself. That takes courage.
Creative practitioners sometimes describe being under huge pressure to ‘make things happen’ in ways that ‘everyone can benefit from’. That’s a huge responsibility.
Creative practitioners in healthcare often work with a lot of vagueness (about available space, who is coming, people’s needs, etc). That’s a lot of uncertainty.
Some creative practitioners are holding emotional space for their participants whose art touches something deeply affecting. That’s a lot of heart energy.
So, is emotional support relevant to creative practitioners?
I see that compassion for staff working in pressured systems must include creative practitioners.
