If you ever wonder what MacMillan do and where the money goes here is first hand experience from one of our intervention workers, Kate. Our MacMillan coffee and cake will be running next Wednesday (23rd) from 10am.
"After being diagnosed with cancer my whole world completely exploded. MacMillan supported me through all the unfamiliar and terrifying aspects of my cancer diagnosis.
Right from the start they were there with everything from information about my treatments to financial advice and help. They gave me coffee along with soft little hats for my freshly bald head, and were always around if I ever needed them.
Their base at Newcross became a safe haven for me to drop into whenever I needed to talk, or even just rest along the walk from one hospital department to another. They always had time for me, and offered comfort when the tears burst out and celebrations when I hit treatment milestones. They understood and they care.
As someone who has worked as a counsellor for many years I was also aware that this was something that would be really important for me to access at some point and, when I was able enough, Macmillan set me up with counselling. This was absolutely invaluable, giving me space to rant, cry, process and work through all the emotions that came with this cancer nightmare.
They do so much good work for so many of us going through such difficult times, and alongside Base 25 (who have been absolutely amazing!) are a charity who deserve all the support we can offer."

Our quote for the week was given to us by Nathan and Keely from Beyond Barriers.
Robert M. Hensel is a wheelchair user who believes in the importance of concentrating son someone's abilities. He is also a Guinness World Records holder for the longest non-stop wheelie in a wheelchair, covering a total distance of 6.178 miles.
If we take time to look at all the things people can do, we can see much further.

Young people’s voices shaping their services
Welcome to Base25 Youth Panel
At Base25 we have established a panel of young people that will shape, develop and deliver services with our open access services. The aim of the youth panel is to give a voice to the young people of Wolverhampton and to ensure that services are relevant them.
If this is something that you would like to be a part of, we will be holding a recruitment drive in the near future for the young people of Wolverhampton who express their interest.
For more information email [email protected] and pop Youth Panel in the subject header.

The "Save The Date" for our Macmillan coffee event has started early.
One of our intervention workers mixed the month and has brought in homemade cakes.
They are flying out the door with one cake connoisseur commenting the lemon drizzle was "the best cake I've ever had".
We have asked the baker to make us some more, for 23rd September but they won't hang about.
Pop it on your calendar, and pop in for a cuppa.

It's results day for GCSE's, and we would like to congratulate everyone on how hard they have worked.
For now exams are way off in the distance, but here at Base 25 we're very aware of the pressure and stress they put on young people. This is why we've designed our very own exam stress workshop, which is freely available to all young people in Wolverhampton.
If you're a parent, carer, young person or a local school please get in touch for further information. These workshops will be offered at Base 25 at dates to be confirmed in the future, and we're happy to discuss bringing these directly to schools too (free of charge, which is never a bad thing!) Whether its SATS, GSCE's, A Levels or retakes we are here to support.
Help us help your young people by sharing this information and/or coming along to Base 25!
