If you have attended Aviation Weather School (Part 1) this is your chance to take your flying weather learning to a new level … please see below
Hello,
I wanted to let you know that I have a couple of places remaining on Aviation Weather School (Part 2) Online which will take place over the next two Tuesday evenings of 6th & 13th October between 1830 and 2100hrs.
You can book now here
https://weatherschool.co.uk/product/aviation-weather-school-part-2-live-online-course-tuesday-evenings-6th-october-and-13th-october-2026/
This is the course that completes your flying weather knowledge and is focused on you being able to supplement the initial forecast you made using the information in Part 1, largely by using skew-t’s to forecast cloud bases, tops, winds icing, mist, fog and much more many days in advance.
As well as that we will talk about the jet stream and how you can quickly use the location of this to forecast if conditions will be suitable for flying weeks in advance.
If it were my call, this is the stuff I would include on the Met PPL and ATPL syllabus so that every pilot can fly more often, more confidently and more safely.
You will get …
✅ A recording of each session to watch for a couple of weeks after the course (longer if you need it)
✅ No need to attend each session live, you can just watch the recordings if you prefer
✅ Full access to me to ask additional questions
✅ A thorough knowledge of how t use skew-t’s for any location for many days in advance
✅ My e-book ‘A Pilot’s Guide to Skew-T’s
✅ A full understanding of some of the more useful weather data which pilots don’t use, hidden deep on web pages
✅ The weather knowledge you need to fly in the UK or abroad, enhancing that available from official sources.
Please ask any questions you need and book your place now.
I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
Kind regards,
Simon

After a cool start to Saturday temperatures will recover in sunshine over England and Wales this afternoon. Always a tendency for more cloud in southern England. Cooler in Scotland, a few showers in the west but both Scotland and Ireland should be mostly dry through the day.

A messy weather picture for Wednesday. Radar shows rain this morning associated with a cold front and trough over E & S Scotland, headed to N England. High pressure build west, becoming brighter here. Very warm in south, feeling milder when the sun pokes out elsewhere.
Pilots, here's your forecast for flying this week and into the weekend.

I'm concerned! Today presents one of those situations I have been becoming increasingly worried about for pilots and it's an easy one to avoid.
Several crashes in recent years have been caused (fully or partly) by warm sector conditions which, it seems, are not being taken seriously enough by some of us flying.
They are easy to spot, and today is a classic example.
I've attached today's analysis from 0600 UTC which shows the warm front approaching western Ireland, it's moving prett quickly east.
Form 215 from the Met Office shows the warm front into Ireland at midday, and correctly forecasts the low cloud, reduced visibility and rain/drizzle ahead of it.
Finally, the visibility forecast for 1500 UTC from the ECMWF shows how 'clagged up' western areas of Scotland, Egland and Wales as well as Ireland become this afternoon.
I could go on, and indeed do at Aviation Weather School (see www.WeatherSchool.co.uk), but please do not be tempted to 'take a chance' with warm sectors and pre-warm frontal conditions. Don't think 'it will be alright', or 'I'll get over these hills before the cloud descends'.
The cloud base and visibility will descend rapidly in such situations as ever moistening air meets terrain and every changing temperature and wind profiles.
✅ Don't be tempted to fly too close to the leading edge of the warm front
✅ Cloud will envelope hills, mountains and coasts quickly
✅ A warm sector is not your friend!
✅ Trust the F215, TAFs and METARs
✅ Just because you know someone who got away with it, you will not be as lucky
✅ Come to Weather School and I'll tell you more !
