NPP Is No Longer Worth Dying For!" — Ace Communicator Clement Bonsu Defects to NDC After 30 ʏᴇᴀʀs
SUNYANI, GHANA — In a major political shift ahead of the 2028 general elections, veteran broadcaster and New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Clement Bonsu, popularly known as Barkley or Paa Cle, has officially ended his over three-decade alignment with the party to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Sunyani East Constituency.
The long-standing political communicator was formally received into the NDC during an official welcoming ceremony in Sunyani, where party executives described his defection as a game-changing boost to their regional and national communication machinery.
Three Decades of Sacrifice Ignored
Addressing the press after receiving his official NDC membership, Clement Bonsu laid out the core drivers behind his departure from the NPP:
Lack of Recognition: He revealed that despite spending more than 30 years sacrificing for the NPP on media platforms across the region, the party consistently failed to acknowledge or reward his loyalty and hard work.
NDC's Governance Track Record: Bonsu highlighted that his decision was heavily influenced by the tangible achievements of the NDC government—citing major infrastructure developments and sound economic leadership within just one year and eight months of returning to office.
"I see no reason to remain with a party that currently has nothing positive left to offer Ghanaians," Bonsu declared, adding that his family fully supports his decision to take a new political path.
A "World-Class Striker" for NDC Communications
Local NDC leadership hailed Bonsu’s arrival as a massive strategic advantage.
Stephen Kwame Adu (Sunyani East Constituency Chairman): Formally welcomed Bonsu into the fold, stating that his vast media experience will make a structural impact not only in Sunyani East but on the national stage.
Hon. Vincent Kofi Antwi Adjei (Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive): Commended Bonsu’s tolerance, maturity, and media prowess built over 15 years of airtime debates. The MCE noted that while the NPP failed to value such a formidable voice, the NDC will provide him a transparent platform to contribute meaningfully without empty promises of material gain.
Nana Joejoe Frimpong Manso (Sunyani East Communication Officer): Likened the defection to signing a world-class striker, emphasizing that the former NPP heavy-hitter will immediately join the constituency's media setup to drive mobilization for 2028.
Party executives have urged all members to give Clement Bonsu maximum support as he transitions into his new role within the NDC fold.

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to accountable governance, transparent decision-making and direct engagement with citizens as he interacted with residents of the Upper West Region during the ‘Resetting Ghana’ Citizen Engagement in Wa.
Addressing concerns raised by citizens, the President highlighted progress and ongoing interventions in infrastructure, healthcare, education, job creation and economic transformation.
President Mahama said government’s infrastructure agenda is designed not only to address Ghana’s infrastructure deficit but to build the foundations for sustained economic growth, beginning with major trunk roads and progressively extending to feeder roads across the country.
On healthcare, he highlighted the expansion of Free Primary Healthcare, noting that NHIS coverage has increased to 76 per cent, while communities are gaining access to essential maternal and child health services closer to home.
In education, the President reiterated government’s commitment to ending the double-track system by the end of 2027, while emphasising the need to restore discipline, integrity and effective teaching and learning in Ghana’s schools.
President Mahama also outlined government’s strategy to expand employment opportunities through the 24-Hour Economy, encouraging private-sector investment, additional production shifts and entrepreneurship as pathways to creating sustainable jobs for young people.
He further announced plans for significant investment in strategic sectors under the proposed New Economy Programme, alongside initiatives including the Women’s Development Bank, the construction of the Upper West Airport, support for local agricultural production and the expansion of economic opportunities across the regions.
Responding to concerns on education policy, the President clarified that there is no approved government policy making Arabic or Chinese compulsory subjects in public schools.
He also reiterated his position on the National Cathedral, stating that while he has no objection to the project itself, his concerns relate to its location, the demolition of public and diplomatic properties and the use of public funds to finance its construction.
The engagement forms part of President Mahama’s ‘Resetting Ghana’ Citizen Engagement Tour, providing citizens with an opportunity to question government, seek answers and contribute to the national development agenda.

SUNYANI, BONO REGION — A critical environmental and public safety hazard is unfolding at Penkwaase, a high-density suburb within the Sunyani Municipality, where severe soil erosion is rapidly washing away access roads, exposing foundation structures of residential buildings, and threatening public safety.
Residents, local business operators, and commuters are raising an urgent alarm over the deteriorating state of the terrain, warning that failure to intervene immediately could lead to structural collapses, severe property loss, or tragic casualties during upcoming heavy downpours.
Key Concerns & Immediate Threats
Structural Vulnerability: Gully erosion created by uncontrolled runoff has eaten deep into residential perimeter walls, exposed drainage systems, and threatened building foundations across key residential quarters in Penkwaase.
Access Route Disruption: Major feeder roads and pedestrian walkways linking Penkwaase to central Sunyani are caving in, severely restricting vehicular traffic and posing life-threatening hazards to pedestrians at night.
Sanitation & Flooding Risks: Deep gullies are accumulating stagnant water and refuse, worsening local sanitation risks and exacerbating flash floods whenever torrential rains hit the municipality.
Sunyani East Chairmanship: Presiding Member Endorses Unopposed Retention for Stephen Kwame Adu
The Presiding Member of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly has publicly backed Chairman Stephen Kwame Adu to retain his position uncontested in the upcoming Sunyani East constituency elections.
According to the Presiding Member, Chairman Adu’s performance during his tenure has been exemplary, setting a high standard of leadership and grassroots mobilization across the constituency. The endorsement highlights a widespread consensus among local leaders that his track record warrants a seamless continuation of his tenure rather than a contested election.

Under Chairman Adu’s leadership, the constituency has witnessed strengthened internal cohesion, impactful community engagements, and effective coordination with municipal authorities.
