We are not born Homeless, Homeless we become.
Homelessness is an important social matter that concerns our built environment and can affect absolutely anyone at any given point in time.
Often misunderstood and underestimated, it is a global quandary.
Understanding of what it actually means to be homeless and rejecting social stigmas associated with homelessness enables effective problem solving through introduction of new models seeking to combat homelessness with focus shifted towards regaining independence, being afforded dignity and offered an adequate support structure as those affected embark upon a journey to achieve self-sufficiency and prove their well being, rather than simply focusing on low cost solutions to the lack of a physical house.

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE GIBRALTAR
(Homelessness Challenge)
Somewhere near you, somebody right now, perhaps your neighbour or their misunderstood lost son; maybe your sister, your cousin or both, are struggling right now or have no place to call home.
Be it financial, physical or psychological pain, there is no doubt that many you know feel this way.
Misunderstood, judged, dependant, alone, everyone deserves help with finding work, purpose, happiness, balance, be able to learn, engage, be noticed and live in a safe home.
Not socially inadequate as you may think, they just need some hope, care, love, gain independence and find a place to call their own, because everyone, with no exception, deserves a home.
We have come dangerously close to accepting the homeless situation as a problem that we just can’t solve.
In the November edition of the OTWO Magazine we shone a light onto the very much misunderstood global socio-economic homelessness challenge. If you missed out on the first part of this article, you can read last month’s issue free online here: https://joom.ag/gHfC
In the 2nd part of the article published in the December edition of the magazine, we abandoned the generic, inadequate models of homeless shelter and pursued to develop a new model influenced by strong principles of seeking to improve where other failed in empowering the future residents, whilst giving due consideration to humanising the spatial aspect of the proposed accommodation concept with laying at the heart of this very concept.
Note: The site chosen was done so as an example of an unused, dilapidated building located in an area, which offers an opportunity for regeneration/rehabilitation and reuse.

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE GIBRALTAR
Back in August we looked at the beautification proposal for Line Wall Road and Montagu Park unveiled by the HMGoG to further their commitment and deliver upon a much anticipated and welcomed promise of a ‘Green Gibraltar’.
The proposal raised many questions and prompted a wave of comments from the residents with many questioning the wider impact of the scheme and discussing other areas they believe should be considered a priority.
In the upcoming issue of the OTWO Magazine, we will be discussing another important social matter concerning our build environment, which may affect anyone, yet it is not inevitable and can be solved. We will demonstrate a possible solution by transforming another physical area within Gibraltar whilst focusing on the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are necessary to protect our .
If you would like to see a specific area being transformed, or a particular matter being addressed and feature in one of our upcoming articles, do not wait, contact us today.
