First time in Toronto for TIFF, exciting times ;)

Hey Toronto! So lovely to join the Jewish staff challah bake at the CBC today. 🍎🍯

Between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Jews traditionally bake round challahs—symbolizing the cycle of the year and the hope for a sweet, whole new beginning. Challah is also rooted in the Hebrew Bible and the ancient agricultural life of the Land of Israel: a delicious reminder that Jewish faith, culture and food are inseparable from the Jewish people’s indigenous homeland.

That history matters to Canada, too. Christianity emerged from the Jewish people and the Land of Israel, and the Hebrew Bible helped shape the moral vocabulary inherited by Canadian society: human dignity, responsibility, justice and care for one’s neighbour.

Thank you to Anne for creating such a warm, thoughtful gathering—and for making Jewish presence visible at one of Canada’s most important cultural institutions. Jewish indigeneity, Canada’s Judeo-Christian inheritance and Chocolate Babka: finally, a CBC program everyone can agree on. 🇨🇦🇮🇱🥯
