🌍 Volunteer Stories: Granada Edition 🇪🇸

The experiences of our volunteers are at the heart of our programmes. 🧡

Chrysoula took part in the Summer School with Children project in Granada, Spain, as part of VEIL-CORPS, and shares a few words about her journey with us:

💬

“This summer I was lucky to have participated in a very fulfilling volunteering experience at Lestonnac, a socio-educational centre in the La Paz neighbourhood of Granada. The centre provides meals, fun activities and important support to children all over the area, and as a teacher myself, I was thrilled to work with inspiring educators and to be able to contribute to such an important cause! I learned so much from the staff and the kids, and I got so much kindness and care from everyone. Thanks to all these amazing people, I now have unforgettable memories that I will cherish for a long time.”

✨ Thank you, Chrysoula, for sharing your experience with us!

🎭🕊️ Art & Peace

SCI Hellas participates in the Peace Activism Campaign of SCI International, highlighting the power of nonviolence through art and literature.

💭 What happens when the law conflicts with our conscience?
And how far would we go to stand up for what we believe is right?

Antigone by Sophocles tells the story of a woman who chooses to follow her conscience and moral values, even when they come into conflict with authority. Through this timeless tragedy, themes of justice, human dignity, and resistance to injustice continue to resonate across generations.

📚 A few interesting facts:
• Antigone was written in the 5th century BCE and is considered one of the most important works of ancient Greek tragedy.
• The play has been translated, adapted, and performed countless times around the world, remaining relevant to contemporary audiences.
• Antigone has become a lasting symbol of moral courage and peaceful resistance against arbitrary authority.

✨ And you?
When do you think standing up for justice becomes an act of peace?

🎭🕊️ Art & Peace

Η SCI Hellas συμμετέχει στην καμπάνια Peace Activism Campaign της SCI International, αναδεικνύοντας τη δύναμη της μη βίας μέσα από την τέχνη και τη λογοτεχνία.

💭 Τι συμβαίνει όταν οι νόμοι συγκρούονται με τη συνείδησή μας;
Και πόσο μακριά θα φτάναμε για να υπερασπιστούμε αυτό που πιστεύουμε ότι είναι σωστό;

📚 A few interesting facts:

✨ Και για εσάς;
Πότε πιστεύετε ότι η υπεράσπιση της δικαιοσύνης γίνεται πράξη ειρήνης;

Today is the last day of our volunteering project "Fair Play for All" in the context of VEIL CORPS. We want to thank again all the volunteers for their passion and their energy that they brought!

It was a great, adventurous, challenging and unpredictable experience!

All together we explored the philosophy of the Theatre of the Oppressed, the values of Fair Play and we planned activities and games for the kids of the UMOJA - Enosi football team.

Under some really bad news, we took the decision to cancel our performance, but we decided to leave a small colourful message for the Umoja team!

Umoja means Unity. We hope that we were part of the promotion of this message!

Thank you everyone for these great connections! See you!

The activity is part of the project VEIL-CORPS co-funded by the European Union.

"This is Peace to Me"🌻

We want to share with you our digital workcamp "This is Peace to Me", which will bring together approximately 15 participants from different countries, from all continents! We are very enthusiastic about it, and we hope that you will find it interesting and useful!

The objective is to collaboratively develop a timeline illustrating how wars have affected the environment and human lives, while also highlighting the role of volunteer groups in reducing inequalities and promoting values such as respect, mutual understanding, solidarity, and collective action. These elements aim to strengthen the sense of peaceful coexistence among people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Participants will work in small, internationally mixed groups to further examine the devastating environmental consequences of war. Based on visual material (photographs), each group will create artistic outputs (in any form or medium) that will form part of a digital anti-war exhibition.

The exhibition will present the historical timeline through photographs, accompanied by the participants’ artistic creations, which will serve as interpretative narratives. On the last day of the project, an online final event will be organized. During this event, participants will present their experiences to the public, who will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition online.

Local stakeholders and organizations promoting non-violent conflict resolution—both at the level of international relations and interpersonal relationships—will be invited to participate. If you are interested in participating in it, please complete the application form by the 9th of September! The link for the application form: https://forms.gle/wq4jqsjhAbhuY4E28

The implementation of the project consists of group meetings (3 hours each) and homework in small groups. The group meetings will take place on these days:

16/9/2026 “Photography and War"
17/9/2026 “Art and Resistance"
21/9/2026 “Working Groups"
