PRO-PRIME 213 is a protective epoxy primer for carbon fiber composite structures. It is used as a first/base layer with the aim to seal from humidity and block galvanic corrosion between carbon fiber and metal components. It is chromates and heavy metals free. It produces a hard shell with very strong adhesion to epoxy resin, carbon fibre and metals. It is offered in black, off-white and grey colour.

Galvanic corrosion between carbon fibre and stainless steel or aluminium components and fastenings on the boat or structure, occurs because carbon fibre, although not a metal, it is conductive. The galvanic series for saltwater, shows CF and the two metals and their alloys at the opposite ends of the spectrum. The effect of galvanic corrosion appears initially as a rust coloured stain on the CF surrounding SS or AL fastenings and components. If left untreated, it can degrade the CF and cause structural failure.

The anti-corrosive properties of PRO-PRIME 213 stem from its special formulation: The coating is electrochemically active, it inhibits the free radicals which cause corrosion. Standard anti-osmosis primers are generally passive in this domain while the sacrificial metals contained in anti-corrosive primers may accelerate galvanic corrosion rather than block it.

PRO-PRIME 213 is suitable for brush/roller and spray application. It is fast drying, allowing recoating every 2 hours at 20 °C. Spray application produces DFT 80-90 microns.

PRO-BOND 101 is a structural epoxy adhesive for wood, GRP and FRP. It is a 1:1 thick epoxy paste for thin line bonds. The highest priority of its formulation is bond strength. As such, it has the correct load of fillers and reinforcing fibres. It contains no solvents. It has a lowered surface tension in order to improve substrate wetting.

PRO-BOND 101 is one of our main offerings for marine carpentry. It is a very capable adhesive for wood. In shear, peel and torsional tests with both soft and hard woods, the result is nearly always failure in the wooden substrate. The same tests for properly prepared GRP and FRP present a similarly high performance.
Typical applications include any kind of construction using wood, e.g. bonding planks on wooden hulls, decks, spars and other structures, the bonding and filleting of bulkheads and other joints, and stitch and glue construction. Its light brown colour matches most wood shades.

Using a ready to use adhesive has several advantages over preparing an adhesive mix on the spot using just resin and an additive. Other than the obvious, saving time (and pot life), PRO-BOND 101 has the optimal load for ensuring the highest cohesive strength. In fact it contains not just one type of fillers, but several of differing geometries ensuring a tighter arrangement. It contains no microballons which, due to their nature, usually hinder complete adsorption and, thus, retain microscopic air voids in the mix. It contains plate shaped fillers which improve resistance to humidity. Finally, the components are prepared mechanically under vacuum ensuring a degree of wetting and uniformity which cannot be matched by a hand prepared mix.

The focus on performance as the highest priority of the formulation results in a narrower workability temperature range: The temperature of the compound must be controlled when the ambient temperature drops below 15 °C (60 °F). While curing will proceed below these temperatures at lower rates, in order for mixing and tooling to remain manageable, PRO-BOND 101 should be stored in a warmer place, preferably above 20 °C (68 °F). Further, at temperatures below 10 °C (50 °F), crystallization of part A should be expected. This is easily reversed by warming the component to 30 °C (90 °F) for about one hour.
