The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) today upheld the findings of the High Court and the Court of Appeal that the Minister of Home Affairs was exercising an administrative function in issuing the Authority to Proceed (ATP) in the United States' request to extradite Azruddin Mohamed and Nazar Mohamed to face conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud and money laundering charges. The Court also found that the issue of bias did not arise.
“On the facts and circumstances of the present case, the second appellant (Azruddin Mohamed) does not have clean hands. He provoked verbal attacks against him by his own earlier attacks against government officials, on his own willing participation in a general brawl of political calumny."

One jailed, another remanded for trafficking co***ne
On FridayJuly 24, 2026, CANU officers conducted an operation in the vicinity of
Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara, where a motor vehicle was intercepted. A
subsequent search of the said vehicle revealed fifty (50) brick-like parcels of co***ne, weighing 55.296 kilograms.
Gerardo Martinez, a Venezuelan National and Revelino Achicue Ascue, a Colombian
National were arrested.
Martinez and Ascue were subsequently charged and appeared before Magistrate Bess
at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court. Ascue pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four (4) years imprisonment, together with a fine of $82,944,000. However, Martinez pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison.
Several other foreign and Guyanese nationals are in custody pending investigation.
