Falcons roar back to claim 3rd place in elite men’s division.

The Guyana Police Falcons Rugby Club convincingly claimed third place with a 29-0 win over Martinique-based club MADA 7s.

After narrowly missing out on the final due to an early yellow card that left them down to six men, the Falcons produced a clinic in the 3rd/4th place playoff.
Captain Lionel Holder opened the scoring with a blistering run down the sideline for a 5–0 lead. He then doubled the advantage with another try to make it 10–0. Tyresse Prescod soon found his way to the try line with a clean left-foot step that left his defender stranded, converting his own try to send the Falcons into half-time leading 17–0.

In the second half the police side absorbed tremendous pressure from the French outfit without conceding. Holder completed his hat-trick after slicing through the MADA defence, and co-captain Godfrey Broomes capped a dominant performance with a well-worked try under the posts, which he converted himself. Final score: 29–0.

Falcons players were flying all around the tournament. A. Hall, R. Griffith and J. Dipchand turned out for the St Lucia Rogues side that won the plate final (5th place).
Several female players from the Falcons club also featured for St Lucian teams Blue Ice and Blue Flame. Blue Ice took the gold, and Guyana’s own Jelena Shepherd was named MVP.

The St Lucia Carnival 7s featured eight teams in the Elite Men’s division from Martinique, Canada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana and the USA. This is the third year the Guyana Police Falcons have participated in the tournament.
