More than 70 Guyanese trained for oil and gas roles at GTTCI More than 70 Guyanese have completed hands-on training for offshore oil and gas roles at the Guyana Technical Training College Inc. (GTTCI), using a US$13 million facility that simulates production systems and operations aboard an FPSO.

Shell CEO Wael Sawan says the company “definitely left at the wrong time” when it exited Guyana’s Stabroek Block before ExxonMobil’s Liza discovery. Stabroek has since yielded more than 11 billion oil-equivalent barrels in discoveries and is producing about 900,000 barrels per day.

ExxonMobil’s negotiations for a possible return to Venezuela could establish a new commercial relationship with Venezuelan authorities while the company seeks to eventually resume exploration in the portion of Guyana’s Stabroek Block affected by the territorial controversy. A Venezuela deal would not, on its own, change the status of the affected acreage.
