In our industry, relationships often last much longer than projects.
Back in 2018, during the WERC - Talent Everywhere conference in Seattle, a group of global mobility professionals came together to discuss the Global Employee Programme – an initiative conceived by Markus Demuth that encouraged relocation companies around the world to exchange team members and learn from one another.
We at Inter Relocation immediately loved the idea.
In 2019, our General Manager, Dominika Muzslay, spent two weeks with our friends at Relo Japan, gaining valuable insights into how relocation services are delivered on the other side of the world. We then began planning the return visit.
Then came 2020.
Like so many great initiatives,the programme was put on hold. But while the world changed, the relationships remained.
Over the years, we kept reminding our colleagues at Relo Japan that we still owed them a visit. Finally, in 2026, we were able to complete the exchange.
Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Daniel Wallin from Relo Japan to Budapest. Daniel spent the week with our team, learning about our services, meeting colleagues and clients, and experiencing life in Hungary.
To make the programme even more meaningful, our colleagues at Rilvan Group Romanian Relocation joined the initiative, with Daniel continuing his journey in Bucharest this week.
What started as a conversation in Seattle eight years ago has become a wonderful reminder of what makes our profession special: trust, friendship, curiosity and a willingness to learn from one another.

Renewing a National Settlement Permit does not have to be complicated—but it does need to be done correctly.
While it is possible to submit the application yourself online, many UK residents in Hungary choose professional support to ensure the renewal is handled properly the first time and to avoid delays or unnecessary issues.

UK citizens resident in Hungary who received a National Settlement Permit after Brexit should check their expiry dates carefully. Many of these permits expire in 2026.
While the permit has been replaced by the National Residence Card, the renewal process remains—and late or incorrect submissions can cause delays and complications.
Applications may be submitted 90 days before expiry, but early preparation and professional handling are key to a smooth outcome.

If you received a National Settlement Permit after Brexit in 2021 or 2022, it was issued for five years. That means many of these permits are now starting to come up for renewal.
Now would be a good time to check when your current permit expires.
The good news is that the renewal process is generally straightforward—especially if you’ve remained a resident in Hungary and haven’t had extended absences.
If your permit expires in the next year or so, it’s worth starting to think about it now rather than leaving it to the last minute.
