It may take them a while to get there, but they make such a great team. They know how to work together, help one another improve and grow, learn to forgive, and, when they need to, act like a single mind.

I think this book handles the found family trope better than any other book I’ve ever read.
It’s impossible to put down and completely destroyed me in the best possible way.
It has everything I want in a fantasy: action, friendship, love, passion, political intrigue, secrets, and character growth.

And then there are Nicko and Isa.
Two characters I adored.
Watching Isa, who is quiet, selfless, sad and sarcastic, change throughout the book and finally find a family, friends, a little bit of joy, freedom, and love warmed my heart. She’s never really had parents, has only ever had one friend, Cas, and has spent her life keeping her emotions bottled up and never feeling truly accepted because of her curse mark and blue hair. Seeing her finally allow herself to feel, experience these things, and appreciate physical touch... even if it's with the one person she absolutely should not be touching, made me so happy.

Nicko is simply Nicko.
He always seems dangerous, cold, and almost bored or indifferent, but there is so much more hiding underneath. He’s also a great commander who knows how to handle difficult situations and keep the group together.
He cares, and his eyes are flames whenever he looks at Isa.
The way he supports her? 10/10.
The way he touches and holds her? 10/10.
The way he protects her? 10/10.
The way he praises her, even if he never does it during training? 10/10.
Plus, he reads smutty romance books... and he wears a mask.

I need book two. Like, now.

Lydia is such a great FMC. She’s strong, stubborn, brave, and definitely a little aggressive. Punching the prince the first time they meet will never not be funny. She’s also insecure and carries a lot of anger and grief, but what I loved most is that she never gives up. She makes mistakes and keeps secrets, but she always tries to fix things, help others, and find a solution. And she is able to change her mind and learn instead of stubbornly holding on to what she believed at the beginning.

And then there’s Zephyr. Can we please have more male characters like this? He is a walking green flag. Kind, fair, patient, protective, flirty, a little arrogant, and completely capable of showing his emotions. I loved that he is powerful without ever needing toxic masculinity to prove it. And the fact that he calls her Little Ember from the beginning? Adorable. The way he forgives Lydia, trusts her, and believes they can figure things out together made me love him even more.

I loved watching Lydia slowly realize that Zephyr was someone she could trust, even when she was fighting it every step of the way. Their banter was so much fun, and he really knows how to flirt. The romance, the chemistry, and the spice were exactly what I wanted.

The plot moves at a fantastic pace. Between the constant action, secrets, and political intrigue, the story keeps evolving in such a satisfying way.
I also really enjoyed the supporting cast, especially Boreas and Notia, Zephyr’s siblings, and Lydia’s best friends. I loved all of them.

I had so much fun reading this, shed a few tears, and now I desperately need book two.

The perfect read to start the -ber months.

I read Winter's Teeth by R.A. Betzer and now I'm completely obsessed with cryptids.

After saving Fox by the river, Rae never expected to see him again. But two weeks later, her sister goes missing at the wedding venue run by the Winter family. Rae rents the venue to find out what happened, and that's when she crosses paths with the creek boy again. He gives her one rule: don't go into the woods. Rae, of course, doesn't exactly follow it. As she digs deeper, she and Fox start working together, uncovering a twisted tradition involving supernatural shifters, dark secrets, and arranged marriages.
Somewhere along the way, Rae starts fighting to rescue not just her sister, but the man she loves as well. Though in the end, she may only be able to save one of them.

Rae is brave, determined, and willing to do anything to save those she loves. A morally grey FMC truly worthy of the title. I adored her. Despite having a sister she adores and fantastic friends, a painful family situation leaves her feeling unwanted and alone.

And Fox Winter? Does he have a good older brother? Asking for a friend.
Loyal, attentive, thoughtful, and wrapped in just the right amount of mystery. He comes from a family bound by strict traditions, and he's definitely not on their good side. The chemistry between him and Rae comes with the perfect touch of flirting. And that milkshake scene...

They're simply two people with complicated families who find their place in each other's arms.

The atmosphere is distinctly dark, creepy, with horror and mystery at its core. The plot is packed with twists, but the dynamic between Fox and Rae, especially their adorable banter, was my favorite part. I loved the side characters too, you can really feel how much they care about Rae and Fox.

He recreates scenes from a book with her. I mean… what more could I possibly say?!

This book is described as Gilmore Girls meets The Notebook, and honestly? Extremely accurate.

Alice has three months to turn her childhood home into the bookshop of her dreams or lose it forever. C**t, her brother’s best friend, is back in town after years away and is determined to help her make it happen. But as they spend more time together, the line between what they should feel and what they actually feel starts to blur.

While reading, I kept picturing a cozy little town in the middle of autumn. The atmosphere was so warm and comforting, even though the story also deals with some heavier topics. I felt really close to Alice and I loved that, despite everything she has been through, she always chooses to show the world her sunny and kind side.

The brother’s best friend trope is one of my absolute favorites, and it was done so well here. I loved the dynamic between Alice and C**t. They support each other, have so much fun together, flirt constantly, and the chemistry between them is ALWAYS there.

And C**t… He had a complicated childhood, he’s a former Marine, and he constantly feels like he isn’t enough. Yet he helps Alice turn her dream into reality and supports her every step of the way. Following your dreams is never easy, and having someone by your side who believes in you means everything.

I won’t say much because I don’t want to spoil anything, but I loved reading the letters Alice sent to C**t throughout the years they spent apart. Seeing what those letters meant to both of them melted my heart.

And the side characters!!! Maggie and June are the kind of friends everyone deserves.

I’m so ready to get lost in this book!

I couldn't put it down.

The story is set in a dystopian world and is packed with action. There is never a dull moment, and the tension never lets up.

Riley is a war photographer: empathetic, talented, and sassy. She refuses to blindly obey Aron, which makes their relationship full of tension. Both Riley and Aron have difficult and painful pasts, and their relationship is complicated. Aron, The Necromancer, is a scary man, an artist, a weapon. He isn't just the leader of Retrograde... he is Retrograde.
He is completely obsessed with Riley, yet refuses to admit to himself what he truly feels for her. I loved seeing him finally making peace with his feelings and realize that sometimes it's worth breaking the rules he has imposed on himself.

The spice? 10/10.

I also really liked how the story handled difficult and heavy themes, as well as the protagonist's trauma.
