Year: 1989. Side ponytail: immaculate. Skivvy: full ET-phone-home energy. Monobrow: just getting started. Brain: daydreaming about riding around on a ladybug, Honey, I Shrunk The Kids style, instead of listening.
Excited to hit the storytime circuit this CBCA National Book Week with Tiny Good Things (illustrated by the marvellous Sophie Beer), including an extra special visit or two to my old haunt, Kangaroo Preschool, in Wagga Wagga 😇 Eight storytimes and four writing workshops across next week… let’s do this! Shoutout to Scott and the legends at Collins Booksellers Wagga for their support too!
Big love to all the teacher-librarians, educators, teachers, daycare staff, preschool directors, libraries and booksellers making Book Week such a special time for kids across Australia.
And to my fellow authors, may your Butter-Menthols be plentiful and your energy high! 💛
Pls help my books get so popular that I’m way too famous to manage my own social media and can throw my phone in the lake 🙏🏼
PS. Nearly book week time! (Still don’t know what my kids are wearing, argh) // Excited for a week of storytimes and writing workshops in the Riverina! // I’m playing around with new novel ideas in a scrapbook (well, trying to) - haven’t found The One Idea I’m Obsessed With yet… // Waiting for my next novel’s manuscript to loop back to me in a few weeks! // Counting down the sleeps until the writer’s festival next month! // Not long until the four-w anthology launch at the (yours truly has a little scribble inside) // And last but not least, I’m cooking up a fun little something for writers later in the year in Wagga! Will keep you posted….

This collage, this song ✨ My manuscript’s with the copy editor but my mind’s still on my girls Leni and Sylvie. (Will tell you more when I’m allowed, promise!)
ICYMI: one of my fave humans Kim - FK Collage created this gorgeous handcut paper collage and, once she heard how much it resonated with my new novel idea, she gifted me a framed print that quickly became an anchor during the drafting process.
Kim was the second person in the universe who heard the ins and outs of my idea (even before my publisher) and her work is still one of my prized possessions in the home office. Forever an inspiration ✨

Dreaming up what’s next at WRK HRS • Coworking Days • Wagga Wagga, NSW’s August WRK HRS event 💛🩷💛
My novel manuscript is with the copy editor (eee!) and the words for the next picture book are with fave Sophie Beer (yeeew!), so today’s Writing in the Wild Wednesday goals were JUST what I needed after a ridiculously intense few months.
✨ Get stuck into LEANNE BAKER DAILY’s Project 14 course (I do at least one of these a year)
✨ Play with new story ideas and daydream in Secret Garden Mode (what I call my dreamy, low-pressure headspace for escaping into my imagination without deadlines or expectations)
✨ Eat my body weight in caramel slice
✨ Catch up on what the brilliant WRK HRS crew have been up to since the last co-working session
//
If you’re new here, WRK HRS is led by the lovely Rach Anderson from Rach | Copywriter + Content Strategist and WRK HRS • Coworking Days • Wagga Wagga, NSW and features a mix of regional creatives and small business owners. It’s always one of my highlights in the work calendar: great company, inspiring chats, hot chips and sweets, unlimited pots of tea and 11/10 productivity. Love / need.
