Oars on the water once I clear the knees I have been unable to row without my oars solidly touching the water at the catch. As my handles pass my knees my boat feels unsafe and wobbly. The cure is

Nothing worthwhile in rowing, comes easy.
Staying dry a little longer, helps you to have more time learning to master the single scull. Once you learn the basic movements you can then improve your balance. If you have the assistance of the Wraptor it speeds up your learning curve.
