Kay and Winnie during our Stay-At-Home Daycare sessions at the weekend. Kay can be worried meeting new people so last year we spent a couple of weeks in the lead up to our first few sessions getting to know each other. She LOVES a puzzle and figuring out how to make the silly human drop chicken 😍😀

Dogs on the restricted breed list are required to wear a muzzle in public under the Control of Dogs Act 1998. But dogs may need to wear one for all sorts of reasons—veterinary visits, scavenging, pain, behavioural concerns, or simply to help everyone feel safer while training is ongoing.

We work with a lot of different dogs and behaviours, and so many of them need to wear a muzzle in public.

Your dog's comfort and safety always come first. If your dog needs a muzzle, wearing one comfortably is a pre-requisite for public outings with PawsAbilities. If your dog dislikes their muzzle—or even their harness, collar, or other walking equipment—we can help.

Our dedicated muzzle training program provides one-to-one coaching to support both you and your dog, from choosing the right muzzle and ensuring the correct fit, to building positive associations and teaching skills such as putting their head into the muzzle, holding still while the straps are fastened, moving around, sniffing, eating, and drinking while wearing it. During our Stay-At-Home Daycare sessions, we'll continue to progress your dog's muzzle training while you're away, while still making sure they have plenty of physical and mental outlets throughout the day.

Curious whether muzzle training could help your dog? Not in need of daytime daycare solutions right now? That's okay. This muzzle training program is available to anyone who needs a bit more support. Get in touch—we'd be happy to chat about the options available.

Most of our Stay At Home Daycare visits take part during the middle of the day and the early afternoon when the sun is at its highest.

We take your dog's safety and comfort seriously and so make adjustments to walks as and when needed to ensure that they stay cool and comfortable.

· Stick to shaded areas favouring leafy and grassy areas
· Focus on sniffing and foraging activities rather than strenuous activity
· Provide frozen food toys or 'ice pops'
· Lots of water to drink and cool down with as needed

Sometimes walks aren't appropriate given the time of day and the hot temperatures so we swap outings for other activities at home.

· Comfort with equipment e.g. muzzle
· Find the parcel
· Problem solving with boxes
· Trick training
· Shaping games
· Comfort with handling
· Food chases
· Engagement games
· Loose lead walking games
· Cueing into bed

And lots more….

Enjoying an “ice pop” (some spreadable cheese) straight from the ice box and trying to stay in the shade. I think I’m off to get my own ice cream now☀️🥵

We have made a small adjustment to our pricing to make Stay at Home Daycare more accessible while still giving every dog the same level of care we are known for.

New year new service announcement!

We are back from Christmas and are coming into the new year with a brand-new service😁

Do you have a dog aged between 12-24months?

Do they bark, growl, lunge at or pull toward other dogs?

Do you find it hard to get their attention when there is another dog around?

Do you find walks hard and not that enjoyable?

PawsAbilities is now offering training and behaviour support to support both you and your dog!

Our package includes;

* A full assessment of your dogs behavioural history.
* Practical advice on reducing opportunities for behaviours you find challenging
* Coaching on teaching new skills and how to manage real world scenarios when they happen
* A complete behaviour support plan including training plans, detailed case notes and training tracker sheets.

Having one to one sessions and working through a plan is great and needed, but it’s the collaborative effort and having continued support while doing the work is what we want to provide. We do this through;

* Weekly check ins
* Reviewing footage of training practice, walks and any other relevant concerns
* This allows us to make adjustments where we need them to make learning easier for everyone while promoting open communication.

To find out more please email us at [email protected] or drop us a dm. 😁
