Big congratulations to who under the leadership of Donegals own managed to reach the summit of Everest in the early hours of yesterday morning. They have since made it back down safely to basecamp. Tired, emotional and weather beaten, but victorious and elated. 47 days in total. A lot of patience and preparation was required but they were in the best of hands. It's devastating that Jason wasn't able to summit himself but he's already that box ticked and to successfully ensure the rest of the team made it there and back is a massive feather in his cap. were delighted to be able to provide Jason with his sports eyewear for this expedition. There will be more to come about the brand in the coming weeks. In the meantime massive congratulations again to You did us proud.

We were very privileged recently to welcome one of Ireland's most accomplished mountaineers and a proud Donegal native to the practice. We were lucky enough to make Jason's acquaintance last year when Kathleen and myself were guided by him on the 4 peaks challenge. It was then that I suggested that we might supply him with some eyewear for his expeditions. Little did we know that the first outing they would get would be when Jason led the 2026 Team Ireland assault on Everest. We have been following their progress closely this past month and it has been extremely challenging. All expeditions were stranded at Basecamp as the season start was delayed due to a collapsing serac on the Khumbu icefall. They had to wait patiently until a new route was forged and that was deemed safe. They then thought that they had missed their weather window and Jason would have to return home to meet his other professional commitments. However, circumstances changed and a window presented itself over the weekend, allowing Jason and the team to set off with the aim of summiting in the coming hours. Unfortunately for Jason misfortune struck as he approached the higher camps and he badly injured his ankle. Not only that but his Sherpa was also taken ill. Jason is meticulous in his preparation and attention to detail and he would never risk his own safety or the safety of others in pursuit of a goal, which is exactly why he was chosen to lead this expedition. So he has taken the sensible decision to retreat back down to Basecamp and help coordinate the summit push for his team from there. We are all gutted for him but know it was a good call and he lives to fight another day. We have now turned our thoughts to the rest of Team Ireland and as they push for the summit and look forward to hearing of their successful ascent and safe descent in the next 24 hours.

Thanks to Heather @ The Alzheimer Society of Ireland for an informative workshop on how to help create a Dementia Inclusive Community. I shed more than a few tears today and came away with a deeper understanding of what it's like for families living with dementia. Well done to all involved.

Rumour has it a Tyrone man and Down woman were spotted atop the highest point of The Kingdom at 3am this morning showing their support for their adopted county as they go into battle today against The Kerrymen. Bumped into Mr Tayto when they got down too. He's rooting for Donegal.🤣

Excellent 3 days spent on learning and development at the British Contact Lens Association conference in Birmingham. This conference is held every 2 years and specialist practitioners attend from every corner of the globe. It's pretty humbling to be in the presence of such skilled and knowledgeable peers. At we are at the forefront in terms of and have spent a great deal developing our practice these past few years. We are constantly striving to deliver better services and it's these events that inspire me to achieve that goal. Back to work next week a better and more informed practitioner.

Many thanks to George and David from Hendersons Hardware who came to my rescue this morning. I was power hosing out the back of the shop and whilst cleaning the back door inadvertently locked myself out. And with my keys stuck in the front door Kathleen wouldn't have been able to get in. As Kathleen was minus her car at home, the boys drove to our house, got the key, manufactured a shorter key and unlocked the shop door. All in the space of one hour. On a Sunday morning!!! That's not just service, it's friendship and community. Many thanks again to you both. Legends
